I had severe anxiety before pregnancy, but it was treated fairly well with medications. Now I have to be off of it for the baby. Has anyone else got any advice of remedies for help with this? I’m struggling pretty badly.

I was on mental health meds all of my first pregnancy and my baby is totally healthy! I’m now in my second pregnancy and about to up my dosage because pregnancy is messing with their effectiveness. That data around certain mental health medications causing harm to baby is very slim and I’m a big believer that the benefits of you being happy and healthy for your unborn baby vastly outweigh any effects that medications might have on your baby (obviously get those medications approved by your doc). Remember, there is no pregnancy without you. It’s so important that you take care of yourself, because your mental health will affect your baby. Wishing you luck

Thank you, it’s so hard because this is my first pregnancy. I have no guidance as my mom hasn’t really been apart of my life since I was very little. I just want a happy and healthy baby. I appreciate the advice!

I’ve been on Zoloft this whole pregnancy with no issues. My doctor moved me to Zoloft in anticipation of getting pregnant as she said it was the most studied of all the SSRIs. It was a hard decision, but what I ultimately realized was that constant stress/anxiety are also very hard on your baby and its development! Pregnancy is not an easy journey and you need to do what keeps you sane.

Please talk to your provider about getting back on some meds! And talk with your close family/friends about helping to watch you after birth for signs of post-partum depression (which can be more likely to affect those who were previously diagnosed with anxiety/depression). Plenty of women have other underlying health conditions where they have to take meds throughout pregnancy. This is just like that! Gotta put your own life vest on first!
