I haven't had my hair done in almost 2 years. I've only had my nails done professionally once as a gift. It's just so expensive and with cost of living continually increasing, it seems so out of reach.
And if you can't afford it, what do you do for self-care?

Literally only b/c my husband is a high income earner but if I can be honest— I’ve significantly slowed down on getting my nails done because I can’t justify spending money on the rising cost of these things. On top of that, I like to tip at least 22% for the service I receive so that only increases an already expensive bill.
I hopped on temu and got myself a little UV light set to do my own nails. I’m not great lol definitely not professional but they’re cute enough. Hair masks done at home before bed and I trade an art class for kids with a close-by mama for facials lol

My tip would be to keep an eye out for salons with trainees that offer discounts as they’re learning / need a model for a style for exam etc.
You can save SO much!

Honestly, I put money aside for getting my hair done every 6 weeks. My hairdresser just recently started to do nails, since I needed something different for me after having my second baby. I put a bit more money aside to treat myself. I can't afford to get my nails done every 6 weeks but, if I can I will just because I'm constantly covered in baby sick & don't go anywhere to need to wear my nice clothes. So it gives me an uplift. I spend within my means.

Idk I just feel like when you look good, you feel good. I feel like crap when I don’t have my hair or nails done 💅🏽 so I just add those things to my monthly budget.

I’ve never had my hair done in my life and nails are only £30 here I get them done monthly. It’s basically added to my monthly bills

My husband learned to do my hair because it's so expensive 🙃

I don't.
I colour my own hair and have it cut about once a year.
Never had my nails done.

I make my own clip ins with all these bills I can’t afford to keep getting my hair and nails done

My husband and I both work and I could afford it but since I got pregnant I started going to great clips (cheap hair salon mostly for men and children). I always just get trims and you don’t need an advanced appt you just check in online a few min before so it’s way easier to fit into my schedule since pregnant and have children. Plus it feels better to pay $24 for a haircut rather than $90+ when I’m just getting a trim! Nails are expensive if I couldn’t afford it I would probably just learn to do it myself or get the sticker nails.

I do my nails myself, save myself SO much money. And I only get my hair cut 2-3 times a year, I’ve never colored my hair because i like my natural hair color

I do my own nails and my own hair.
Nails are off of Amazon (nails, UV gel glue, a nail kit, polish). I have my license so I get professional grade dye. I get a haircut maybe once every couple years.
my partner and I both work ft with above average income and still can't afford to splurge on these things soo....

I’ve been buying the stick on nails 💅🏾 from like CVS now the quality has significantly improved so ppl don’t even realize and they’re like $10

I take up hobbies and two of those have been pretending I can do hair and pretending I can do nails lol I just started doing gel nails because they last really well but I’ve been cutting my own hair for like 5 years and dying it for 3

Gotta do something for yourself every now and again

I do them all at home. I do my nails using Polygel or press ons or sns powder. My hair i made a post the other day using the Brad Mondo wolf cut. I can now shave and cut my LB’s and Hubbys hair too as I taught myself during lockdown so he’s 4 and never been to barber. I only pay for laser, massages and things like microblading. Hair and nails i learnt to do myself so they are always done/kept. I hate unpainted and unkept nails and toenails

It’s not that I can’t afford it, rather I don’t like making appointments and going to go do them and it’s my “me time”, sitting there for an hour to do my nails.
oooo how did you teach yourself to cut your own hair. Cutting someone else's hair is hard, I imagine cutting your own is even harder

Girl I have the answer on how to cut your own hair. I'm a professional stylist and I use Brad Mondo YouTube tutorials. Absolute life saver

Exactly what said lol I will say before I found him I was just chopping away but my hair is curly so it hid a lot of flaws 😂

Yesssss look up BRAD MONDO wolf or butterfly cut tutorial on YouTube it’s actually SO easy took my 5mins to take off 3inches last time

The wolf cut saved a ton of my clients during the pandemic. Doing nails yourself are trial and error but worth it. I personally find doing all these things for myself very soothing and centering. It also isn't super expensive. Just get some good hair cutting shears. You can find them at Sally's
Thank you all for the tips!! Will definitely be watching some hair tutorials and looking into some nail stuff🥰
