I've just received a summons for when I will be 33 weeks pregnant (first child).
Has anyone else been in this situation?
I definitely don't want to defer as I plan to BF. It's not clear on the gov websites if pregnancy is an acceptable reason to be excused.

Personally I’d do it and get it out of the way unless you’re having a particularly difficult pregnancy. Jury duty is no more taxing than going to work and most women are still able to work at 33 weeks

I’m a lawyer. I don’t know what country you are in but you will def be excused if you ask. The fact that you could need medical care and could have to step down at any point would be enough for lawyers to object to you. Breastfeeding would also be a very valid reason to be excused from jury duty too (no one but you can BF your baby).
Trials can be any length, and honestly if you got sat on a stressful or upsetting case it would be tough on you. Preforming jury duty and working at your regular job are very different things.
Edit* even for a day, sitting in courtroom chairs is super uncomfortable, and you can’t pop out to the loo whenever you want, you’d have to wait for a break.

It might not be bad to do it. You definitely won’t get put on a long trial (judges are paranoid about their trials being disrupted by a juror having to leave mid trial), you might just have to do a one day trial and be discharged.
and once you are there you can probably be discharged without even doing a trial - eg if you need to go to the loo constantly.
Better to do it now than when the baby arrives and I don’t think you can defer more than a year.
Thanks everyone - this is in the UK.
I'm also thinking this might be a good time as I definitely won't be asked to sit on a long trial!

I’m a teacher and I couldn’t pop out to the loo mid-class either. I taught until 37 weeks 🤷♀️ It very much depends on how the individual pregnancy is going I guess

My mum didn't so hers when she was pregnant with my sister they excused her

oh wow, well done. You must have a bladder of steel!

I was called for court cases as part of court a number of times through my pregnancy and I was allowed to do it via video. Other than that pregnancy is a pretty excusable circumstance
