Itchy face

I have a 11 week old baby, who has been constantly itching her left side of her eye area, even though I keep moisturizing her, it doesn’t seem to help with the itch, or the itch keeps coming back. she makes it go red by itching. I have been referred to dermatologist but don’t know long that’s going to be. How can I help my baby with her itch,

Hydrocortisone 1% will help with the itch
We use cortisone 10 we got from Walgreens
I wouldn’t use it on the eyes though
And be sure she doesn’t rub it into the eyes though
Being well hydrated also helps
You can also use aquaphor
I asked my pediatrician if we can put it on her eyelids cuz they were a bit dry and she said yes but a very thin layer - I like to moisturize her skin first and then lock it with aquaphor few times a day
You can try to swaddle her to keep her from making it worse
Tubby Todd all over ointment has done wonders for my baby as well
A humidifier in the room also helps with the dryness

oh did it! I’ve tried aveeno which doesn’t seem to work, now I am trying Childs farm moisteriser. Because that’s all the doctor keeps telling me to do is moisturize!! He didn’t give me no medical cream like the hydrocortisone that you suggested.
Ooohh did you see anti itch creams in pharmacy! I will look into that! But scared to use it as my baby tends to rub her eye and don’t want it to go on her face but I will just have to swaddle her. All I got from doctors was pariton (with less dosage)

ooh yes hun I heard of cartison after I visited my shit doctor ! He didn’t give me NOTHING, just kept telling me to moisturize. In the end I demanded something for her, and then he just gave me piriton (with less dosage) but I’m put off giving it to her because on the label, it says it’s not suitable for babies under one years.
When you said you asked your pediatrician if you can put it on the eyelids, were you talking about cartison? If so, then I’m going to get it and can I get it over-the-counter in pharmacy?
So you tried two different things? Cartison and aquaphor?
Yes hun I will defo have to swaddle her when applying it on her face or else she will rub in her eyes.
And yes!!!!! I just literally ordered a humidifier this morning !!!! I had a feeling that’s what’s causing it too! So luckily you suggested that! Xx

Definitely no cortisone on the eyes
Just a thin layer of aquaphor
The humidifier will make a huge difference
We were sleeping over at my in-laws and the air in their house if very dry wish was drying up my baby’s face, including her eyelids
Soon as we got home I turned on the humidifier and it made a world of a difference in just a night or two
Yes you can get the cortisone from Walgreens over the counter but again don’t put it on her eyelids
Just aquaphor on the eyelids would do, and again, only a thin layer

Yep I’m using:
1. Cortisone - if I see her itching (only on the face, not eyelids)
2. Tubby Todd - on her face where she has dry spots
3. Aquaphor - on top of tubby Todd to lock in that moister and also a thin layer of it on her eyelids
4. Cool mist humidifier

You also don’t have to layer the tubby Todd and aquaphor if you don’t want you can use them interchangeably

I’m not sure they can coordinate their hand to an itch just yet. It could potentially just be her self soothing methods. My eldest used to scratch her neck and pull at the back of her hair, still occasionally does it now and she’s 4. Try putting scratch mitts on or folding the baby grow hands over to prevent damage x

Oh really? Is that highly possible where they can’t really coordinate their hands to an itch ? At night when she’s off to sleep or while she’s sleeping, she seems to be going on forever rubbing her face with the sides of her hand, her hands are always covered , I always cover it by folding the baby grow hands. so she’s rubbing with her body suit and makes herself go red and I get worried she’s going to get sore!
And what did you do when your eldest scratches her neck?

You definitely need to swaddle to get it under control

thank you very much! Will take all this info consideration! Also we don’t have Walgreens here in the uk so I will visit the pharmacy even though he was saying he can’t give much to a two month old baby

my partner swaddles her every night and she seems to break free eventually lol. I’m hoping a humidifier will make a difference to her itch!

Avatar

Mine was breaking free too
We use the Halo swaddle at night now and it seems to keep her hands inside the swaddle at night
And during the day I have her swaddled in the Anna & Eve swaddle and she hasn’t been able to break out of that

I’m sure any drug store will carry the cortisone

Yes. They definitely can’t coordinate their limbs yet which is why they flail a lot and if she’s doing it a lot whilst trying to get to sleep or at night then it most probably is her trying to self sooth. I used a love to dream swaddle because she liked her arms up but it kept them from scratching x
