Universal credit and mat leave
Hey Girls, I need some help. I have already don't the entitled to information so know that I will be eligible for benefit. However been let down by my job as i started a week later than mat leave would start.
Anyway my question is when would you apply for universal credit, I am a single mum, life on my own and stressing I won't be able to pay the rent as everything's changed last min. I start mat leave 4th march. So I take that is when I won't get paid anymore money from my job. Any help or anyone who can make me feel less stressed I would appreciate. Thanks

Hi I would recommend applying now as even if you aren’t eligible right away, they keep the claim open for 6 months so you’ll automatically get the money once you are eligible for money and you’ll also have to have an appointment to accept your commitments (agree to terms basically) so it just gets it out of the way with xx
You can apply anytime now. It takes a couple of weeks for UC to pay you the first money. You will still have to go through the verification process. Remember to provide information as it is for now. Once.ypur claim is submitted and you can add a message in your journal, you can always leave a message that you will start your Mat leave soon.

Have you also looked into maternity allowance? As an alternative to SMP?
@Rosie I ordered the form yesterday as i don't have a printer and have got all my payslips together ready so have been trying to be organised but have adhd so find it hard to focus. But trying my best. I appreciate all your help 🙏 ❤️ genuinely feel lost with out you guys x
