Swimming

Okay this might sound daft and silly to ask but, when you take your LO swimming, what do you need? I have a class booked today but her swimsuit hasn’t turned up so need to go get one. How’d long does the swimsuit need to be? Do they wear anything underneath? What nappies do they wear? Do you bathe them At the swimming pool after? We’re meant to be heading out after to meet a friend….

Swimsuit (your choice) then swim nappies (most supermarkets do these) take their normal towel. If they have showers i just sort of hold baby underneath then dry/ dress like you normally would (I always take a onesie/sleepsuit for ease) Then tonight give baby a good wash in the bath. It’s all common sense I would say but hope that helped x

Swimming is quite hard on your own with little one, but it’s do able.
You’ll need a swim nappy, sometimes they sell them at the bars or you can get them from mostly any shop.
2 towels, i sometimes just take one for my little one and use it after him.
My little boy is a bit older than your little one but he likes to take little things to play with.
Tip, dress baby before yourself choose a family changing room with some here to set baby or if you can take pram in with you.

no it did thanks 😂 first time taking her so not sure what the ‘rules’ are per say 😂😂🫠 I didn’t want her to get too cold if all I could get my hands on was a legless swimsuit for example!

Ah see I disagree with Lily from taking my lg on her own about getting baby dressed first 😅 My hair gets wet and im just wet so I ended up soaking baby in her dry clothes and it was just stress - I now strip her of the swim suit and nappy as they are like sponges and wrap her in an adult towel, put dummy in and put a hat on her head, I then get myself dressed and dry and then get her dressed. But find what works for you ☺️ xx

I ordered her a happy nappy swimsuit from Amazon and came the next day? Just need a disposable underneath. First time I took her we showered off together but I bathed her properly at home. X

I’ve always done swimming on my own and it’s definitely do able so don’t stress.
You’ll need either a disposable nappy and a happy nappy or just a happy nappy duo.
Most places require a double nappy system.
What costume you have depends on the temp of the pool.
If it’s a standard pool, they’re normally quite cold and they recommend a splash about warm in one (or equivalent). If it’s a warmer pool (my daughters was in a 35 degree pool) she was fine in just her nappy, or a standard swimming costume.
The first class I was in a child only a had a swim nappy and the pool was so cold, they didn’t allow him to do the class.

I found it depends what kind of pool you are going to! My LO has lessons in a hydrotherapy pool which is 33/34 degrees so she just wears disposable swim nappy, happy nappy and swim suit but whenever we go to a leisure centre she wears a wetsuit instead of a swimsuit as it’s considerably colder for her!

My place requires double nappy - inuse a happy nappy duo which is the only thing needed. The pool is warm so can just be in that but i use a swimsuit thats short sleeved and to the knee. For a local leisure centre where its cooler i have a fleece wetsuit to make sure shes warm. I get myself dressed first so im not dripping onto her. I also give a snack / bottle straight after when dressed as it makes them extra hungry and tired. I dont bother showering her but i moisturise

When I took my baby swimming before we left I put her swim nappy on, then her splash about swim suit, then I put on her sleepsuit... then all I had to do was undress her when we arrived. I always take 2 towels to keep her warm. I would dress myself first so I don't get baby wet while dressing them.

It’s a local leisure centre and there’s nothing on their website about temp of pool /requirements and their phone line isn’t open for some reason 🫠

aw thanks I don’t have time to get to one of those unfortunately! I’ll just have to see if my local Tescos has anything 😅😅

Avatar

if it’s a leisure centre it’ll definitely be on the colder side! If you aren’t able to get a wetsuit don’t stress, baby will be fine but might just get cold quickly and you’ll have to get out and get warmed up! You might just find you are only in the pool for like 10 mins😅

My leisure centre sells baby swimming costumes so fingers crossed they might sell them there🤞

I take my little girl (8months) for a swimming lesson every week since 7 weeks old!

It’s such a lovely experience and although feels like a lot of effort for 30 minutes, she’s come on so much already and goes round the pool alone on pool noodles!

Swim nap, swimsuit if your choice, I use an all in one zip up with short legs to the knee and long sleeves.

Then I get myself dressed first so I don’t drip all over baby and get their dry outfit wet. While she waits I put a poncho towel over her and remove her swimsuit so she’s dry and starts to warm up. They may grizzle a bit while you get dressed but if you’re dry and ready it’s much easier to then get them ready. You can’t hold a dry baby against your soaking wet body 🤣

I have found alot of public pool showers are too hot or too cold for babies. A happy nappy over disposable swim nappy and then depending on pool temperature a wet suit or swim costume

Avatar

Often if you turn up with the wrong thing they have spares, you will love it 🥰🥰🥰 i have never found a way for me or the baby to shower after 😂

I actually take my LO all ready in his nappy and wetsuit and have my swim costume on under my clothes, makes life so much easier when you get there. X
