NYC shelter and working from home

I might have to go to a shelter with my daughter and I just need to know if anyone knows if they’ll allow you to work from home?
I need a quiet room with internet access because I’m on the computer and phone. Anyone have info? I tried calling PATH but I don’t think that’s a viable option

Depends on the shelter you get. Wifi isn't even considered a necessity in most so there's a chance you wouldn't even have that but if you even get wifi some buildings are just really loud with thin walls. I'd suggest going to the closest library or investing in a really good microphone. I did wfh in the shelter while I was there but hybrid work and my job was aware of my situation so they understood some days I just couldn't do phone calls.

not an option for me because I use 2 monitors and a laptop and only work on the phone /:

Yeah then you are gonna be hard pressed to get help there. Unless you manage to get a 'good' shelter with a descent community room you could probably ask to borrow it for a set time (your work hours) however that's not very likely. Not to be pessimistic but to be very real; shelters are not very accommodating.

did you have a child while in the shelter?

that’s my concern like what if I’m not in my own room

Sorta. It was during the first 7 months of my pregnancy. I just left (bought my own place, no voucher bc they suck at that and I got shit to do so I just worked hella hard through pregnancy and everything to get out). And when it comes to noise being under your control lmao girl nah I was in the apt style shelter for women with kids and there were no men allowed not even for visits like literally only two male maintenence workers. The kids were constantly running around and yelling and screaming. Throwing toys, banging on doors, etc, and no the staff didn't care. Girls smoking on every floor and overall maybe 2/7 girls on my floor weren't ghetto and loud so again, be prepared for the worst but hope for the best.

sorry but it’s not the same as entering with a child. I don’t think it’s the same for families as it is for single women

@incognito yes, definitely a lil diff. I was on a floor with kids and was the only pregnant woman but I also have only been in that 1 shelter. It was just me and my unborn baby but like I said I was there for 7 months in a shelter where there was 1 in 10 women who were pregnant. If you wanna dm me I can share some pics and vids I recorded while there for my own record. Also it depends on your daughter's age. When you get to path you can talk to them about it all. Over the phone they're pretty dodgey but in person is better.
