Water Birth?

What happens after a water birth? Do they transition you to the bed to let you do skin to skin with baby? Sounds really selfish but I want to be the first person to hold my baby and do skin to skin with her, I don’t want them to pass baby to the dad or my mum, my midwife hasn’t been great with explaining my options

You'll be the first person to hold your baby. With mine, the midwife guided her through my legs as she was being born in the water and we sat in the water for a while before moving to the bed for more cuddles and cord cutting etc

You hold your baby as soon as they come out of the water!

You can catch them in the pool if you’re lucky!

Our plan is to transition to my bed after birth. That’s if I end up using the tub. It’ll be at my house but no requirement to use it if I find a more comfortable place for me.

I had skin to skin with my baby as soon as I gave birth then baby was given to dad when I moved to the bed to push the placenta out then she was passed back to me - not selfish at all to want to be the first btw!!

Midwife put my daughter on my chest straight away. My partner cut her chord while still in the pool so you can definitely spend some time in the pool before transitioning somewhere else

My first daughter was born in the pool I caught her then did skin to skin for a while when still in the water, dad held baby while I went on the bed to get the placenta out x

I had one with my first he was on my chest in the pool as long as possible but I started bleeding so baby was given to dad for me to go lie down and for the placenta to be delivered but once checked over I had him back for skin to skin again until they weighed him x

It’s not selfish my dear, you carried and made that baby you have every right to hold the baby first

Got to hold my baby first after a water birth! OB caught it and midwife usually cleans and wraps it quickly and passes Bub straight to you! It’s quite normal. But be prepared for it to pass through OB and a midwife in any hospital birthing scenario. X

I think things are slightly different in the UK, where I'm presuming the OP is from x
