So I’m looking to move from leeds to Leicester soon and idk how I’ll afford it. Currently paying £600 rent (excluding bills) for a two bed private rent flat but tryna look for similar prices has been terrible and found nothing even at £800. Council didn’t accept my application because I don’t meet the requirements but I’ve had a relationship breakdown and will be moving back to family. The lease on our current place is almost up and I’m starting to worry.
I wasn’t planning on going back to work till May and only receive 300 in universal credit as my workplace paid me my holiday hours that was over 1k so I have been sanctioned till further notice. I have 3k in savings but I know I won’t really get a place with this information 🥺 I’m really starting to panic because I feel like I’ve failed my babies. Rightmove hasn’t had any good places, I don’t have anything in place and I can move back to my parents but will be in their living room with two babies. My university offered me a remote job that starts in June that I am contemplating taking as it is a graduate role starting at 27k which will be better than my current job where I’m on annually 16k. it just means more hours etc and I can’t even find a place. I’m still so heartbroken over my relationship ending.
My eldest will be 16 months by the time the lease is done the youngest will be 2 months I just feel so shit because I just never imagined life to take a turn for the worst. And to top it off he already has a new girlfriend 5 days after he just ended it and she’s already telling him what he can and can’t do when we have children together. He’s listening to make her happy but he’s affecting our eldest because dada is never around. I’m literally just crumbling like i don’t know anymore

I've been in your sit moved from Birmingham to Leicester due to the father leaving when I was pregnant so my advice is so this go stay with family for a bit if you can as soon as your in Leicester wait it out 2-3 months then get your family to write an eviction letter go concil on the basis of homelessness and ring shelter as council will try anything not to home u I'm still in private rented which the council found for me and it's not the best literally falling apart but it was either this or stay in Birmingham with no one to help or support me and if you look I. The right places or ask the council that your willing to rent private as long as it meets your needs I'm sure they will help but looking for a decent two bed house you are looking around £800-1500 a month that's without the bills or furniture

Leicester is second most expensive place to live in and with so many just coming into the city and accepting any condition and accepting that the landlords here have become so lazy and neglectful as landlords so if you can afford it I say pay that bit extra otherwise ur dealing with a house that's falling apart and the landlord isn't willing to fix anything

I live in Leicester.. and my sister in law and brother was classed as homeless with a 5 month old. Council wasn’t helpful. We searched and searched and searched for properties in LC they viewed over 30 plus houses ( estate agents ) and couple private they just wasn’t accepted because of house high the prices were there “ yearly income “ didn’t fit there criteria. They are now finally in a house 2 bed paying £1000 a month. 🫠 that rent alone. Prices are absolutely shocking right now. I’m frightened for our future if my landlord ever sold because I don’t think I could afford a £1000 a month on rent alone and then the other bills on top. scary world we live in.

I do hope you find something in your budget if you go on “ open rent “ I’m sure they are all private landlords? x

My sister in law found their place on open rent - granted it wasn’t in Leicester but you can find gems on there! I also find on the market is a better website x

what's open rent how does it work how can I get a place the one I'm living in is falling apart and the landlord isn't willing to fix it

It’s a website where landlords or whatever advertise their properties directly
that’s absolutely ridiculous. I would stay up here but I could benefit from the family support
thank you! I’ll give it a try xx
I don’t mind living Leicestershire, my parents live in Groby so not exactly Leicester themselves but thought it would be easier in the city rather than outskirts

Trust me I wish I stayed in Birmingham family havnt really been much help tbf so I would have been better off anyways
