Sorry ladies this isn’t mum related but I don’t know where else to ask this! So I’ve never done any skincare apart from moisturising my face morning and night but recently my friend was shocked when I told her this and said I need to have a skincare routine. I since have started using a cleanser and sometimes a serum as well as moisturising. My skin before was okay I didn’t really get spots and was mostly smooth but since I’ve been getting itchy red patches and lots of spots!! It’s like my skin has gotten worse for it. Has anyone else had this before and shall I just not use any products?

I'd say if what was working for you before was working don't rock the boat and add new things in. By the sounds of it you've had a reaction to the products so id go back to what you did before

I very rarely do skin care apart form moisturise and use spot products when I actually get a spot! My skin is so much better when it’s largely left alone

I have pretty sensitive skin and eczema, my Skincare routine is just washing with water and moisturising about 4 times a day 😅
I've tried a few things here and there just to see if it helps my eczema but honestly I think the whole 'skincare routine' thing is just a trend.

Typically when you start new products it can cause you to break out bc it is purging your skin and in effect working, but it should start making a difference. If it isn’t I’d think it was a reaction. Some people can handle products well and others can’t. It is all about finding what works for your skin.

I'd also add that whenever you introduce something into your skincare routine, it has to be veeeery gradual. Also, just slapping stuff on your face for the sake of having a routine is not beneficial.
However, I do think that moisturiser, cleanser, spf, and a good retinol are essential.
I've personally signed up for Skin+Me and they send you a personalised monthly cream and moisturiser, I just use my own retinol and spf (I prefer Paula's Choice).
