How do you get baby to fall asleep in the cot?

My LO is 10months now. He's always fallen asleep on me and I'll lay him down in the cot when he's in a deep sleep. It started this way because I breastfed and he fell asleep on me. Now he's a bit bigger, he wriggles a lot on me to get comfy to fall asleep. When he wakes in the night, he has a little moan in the cot and falls back to sleep on his own. I want to get to the point where I feed him his night time milk and lay him down for him to fall sleep in the cot. He's done it before a couple of times. Do you have any tips on doing it? I imagine a few times he'll sit back up and cry when I put him in the cot sleepy but awake. Do you stay there with them until they fall asleep etc? I'm nervous about doing it 🤷🏼‍♀️ thank you!!

Start by introducing some sleep associations such as patting or rubbing him gently, sing a particular song, shush, him or whatever works. Start doing that while holding him, do that for a week or so and be really consistent, then continue to do those things once you've laid him down. Hopefully he will associate them with sleep and you can soothe him to sleep that way.

We used to cuddle/rock to sleep but then she started waking everytime we put her down so we switched to settling in the cot, so we did the same things so laid her on her side and gently rocked her back and forth while patting her bum until she was asleep. She hated it the first night and we had lots of crying but by night 2 she has basically accepted it and only got really upset at the 2/3am waking. I would go with what Steph said, make sure you have a sleep association you can do once he’s put down and then just go for it
