So I’m being put on Enoxaparin sodium 40mg/0.4ml solution injections in my stomach starting tomorrow. I have a history of a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs). I’m utterly terrified of the injections in my stomach from the last time I was on them, but I’m not able to be on the oral version due to the babies. Has anyone else been on these during pregnancy? How did it affect you? Xx

Not the same brand but both pregnancies I have taken Dalteparin (another blood thinner). I start at 9 weeks and take them until 6 weeks post partum. They’re not fun, I won’t lie. Find somewhere on you that works for you, I find stomach a lot easier than legs but some will say the opposite. Try not to over use one particular place as you will bruise and have a certain amount of scar tissue under the skin that will make it sore too. They can be sore when you release the liquid too but it’ll pass after a couple of minutes. Other than that, I don’t have any side effects or reactions, they just become something you have to do each day and I suppose you just get on with it. Good luck with them; if you have any issues, the maternal medicine teams are a great help x

I have to do the 80 mg twice a day, since I got pregnant. It’s not fun now that I’m in my third trimester, and my stomach is a bit harder to see the places I can inject, but overall I feel incredibly better about taking it than not because of my PE history as well. The bruises aren’t fun, but overall it’s minimal if any pain. I find icing the area immediately after injection for 5 min minimum reduces any bruising, and pain. I also make it part of a routine so I don’t forget. I know some find it easier lying down but I find it easier standing. My biggest annoyance is the amount of waste it produces. Just know you’re not alone.
