The typical recommendation is wake every 3 hours until they regain their birth weight!

okay! Thank you! My mother in law was like “Your not supposed to wake them when they sleep to feed them. I never did with my boys.”

It’s probably fine to let them sleep too, however some babies will fail to gain enough weight without waking them at this age, so this is why waking is recommended. My mom also got the advice “never wake a sleeping baby”, but my babies had their days and nights flipped so I would always wake them every 3 hours during the day even after they regained their birth weight, otherwise they wouldn’t sleep at night. So I would say it’s overall up what works best for you - a lot of advice has changed since your MIL had babies!

Thank you for the advice! I appreciate it

There isnt a right or wrong way, but people will provide opinions like they are hard fact. It is very suggested if you have a smaller baby, preemie or a significant weight drop after birth. If you decide not to and they fail to gain change it up. I have found parenting is very trial and error. Good luck.

I did every 3 hours for the first few weeks. Then started dropping out the night feedings one at a time to help baby figure out sleeping at night. The book babywise helped me figure out feeding needs.

I think the recommendation is every 3hrs up until baby is above their birth weight.
Once they reach birth weight, you can let them sleep, unless they aren’t putting on weight.
