Anyone that’s had a water birth on here can you comment your experiences please? Bonus points if you’ve experienced both water birth and non-water vaginal birth and can compare! I’m thinking I’d really like a water birth but want to know the reality of it. Anything to be aware of? Also is it actually true they make your partner fish out the bits with a net or is that an urban myth? 😂

Hi! I didn’t end up pushing in the water but I labored in the water! I absolutely loved it for labor pain & back labor. It helped a ton with contractions- but for myself it made my labor slow down 😅 got too relaxed in there I guess haha! If you can use it tho- it’s lovely!
My midwives got all the “bits” out when I was pushing

I had a water birth at a birthing center. it was fantastic! I labored on the toilet and in the water and pushed in the water. I’m pretty sure I had back labor so my back was in excruciating pain. Being in the water definitely helped. It was very relaxing and I think the water really helped with relaxing between pushes because I could kind of float to relieve some of my back pain. My husband did scoop some gunk out but that’s just because he was right next to the net thing. The midwives also would scoop out stuff that’s just part of the adventures of labor lol.
Regardless of how you do it a natural labor will be painful. Preparing your mind is the most important part. If you are afraid then your birth will be hard. Highly recommend hypnobirthing and researching breathing techniques as well as different laboring positions.

I’ve only had a water birth but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
My labour was relatively quick as when I arrived at the birthing centre I was already 9cm dilated. I hopped straight in the pool and stayed there until baby was born.
I found the water so calming, think hopping into a spa when you have achy muscles, its also really soothing! I loved that it added a barrier of privacy also from everyone seeing up in my business. It was also really nice to move around and try different positions.
The only thing is that it was really hot! Obviously the room + water had to be up to temperature for baby and your body is doing a lot of work but taking that into account I’d still opt for a water birth for my next baby!
As for the bits, they were just drained and cleaned out afterwards! 🤣

I really wanted a water birth but my waters broke and then there was little progress for 24 hours so had to be induced. I did most of my labour on a ball as I wanted to avoid being stuck to the bed. It wasn’t as awful as I expected and time passed quickly. Still would have chosen the pool if I had a choice.

Thank you so much ladies! It sounds like a water birth is a really positive calming experience. Definitely going to try to go that route! I just want sure about the idea of floating around in all the ‘bits’ 🫣 but it sounds like that wasn’t a big issue for any of you?! Xx

Also sorry for more questions, but did you all wear in the pool? Tankini style top / nursing bra / nothing? x
