New Relationship

Little backstory...

My son is 2 years old, me and his dad have been separated since around May last year. Our relationship is very hit and miss. He likes to play the victim a lot and even refuses to pay child maintenance. He sees his son when he can, only issue is that he doesn't have his own place so he stays at his dad's (my son's grandads) house when he can. He likes to claim that I took his son away even though he is the one that got us evicted from our family home, he also put me in debt so I left for my own mental wellbeing. He's a great dad but a horrible partner.

So that is the summary... Do you think if I get into a new relationship, I need to inform him?

I don't know how he would take it so I'm worried if it could potentially change his relationship with our son by distancing himself to lick his own wounds. Or would it make him fix up, I have no idea.

It sounds like your me. This is my same story without being in a new relationship
I don’t feel as tho you need to tell them your in a new relationship if it does not directly affect your child

If the other partner is directly involved then you do.
My ex’s ex wife called the cops everytime but this was when we married each other
She would call the cops every other day and they would come weekly purely cause she didn’t like his daughter calling me mommy.
Prior to that she has never met me or spoken to me.
But when the roles are reversed she doesn’t mind her boyfriend meeting her daughter and being in the same house. It’s all immature tbh.

omg that is crazy! That is the kind of stuff I am scared of, unnecessary drama 🙄

If the relationship has been one for a good amount of time and is serious, I think it’s important to let the child’s other parent be aware a new person will be in the child’s life and spending time with the child. You would want that same respect, if the tables were turned, I assume.

tbh I don't think he would pay me the same respect. I just don't want him to think I'm mentioning it to rub it in his face

well, if he didn’t pay the same respect to you, that’s his choice. Communication is so important. But a potential partner may be a longtime partner. Eventually the child will be talking and spill the beans at some point. And, if he thinks you’re rubbing it in his face, that’s his reaction and not in your control. But of course, it’s up to you. Nobody knows the details and such on your guys situation. Best of luck to you
