I’m avoiding baby rice. The NHS and other sources recommended starting with vegetables first, then introducing fruit. With my first I got a few weaning books for recipes - Ella’s kitchen, What Mummy Makes and Wean in 15 x
It contains arsenic????? Im horrified
@Sasha all rice does, there's ways to minimise exposure but one of the key things is to not introduce baby rice.
Baby rice is a con
@Sanam my god i never did it with my first child as it looked so naff... but with this new one ive given it to him a few times to help make things blander. The first thing i will do when i go downstairs is bin it!!! Thank you
@Sasha bless you don't worry. The levels are low anyway and the fact it's just been a bit and you're stopping anyway is perfect. This is why there needs to be better regulation for baby foods etc, at the moment it's just for corporations to profit from!!
@Sanam i definitely agree. Almost all baby snacks have seed oils in them. Which are proven links to cancer etc. Its so hard to get my toddler pre made snacks when out and about. I tend to get her those adult Nak'd bars are they are much more innocent ingredients
@Sasha oh great idea!! I'm gonna pinch that tip thank you 😊
Weve only just started weaning but I don't intend to use any of the gimmicks that family have reccomended (baby rice/porridge, rusks etc) we've just started with pureed veg with a bit of formula/breast milk added to make it runny and next week will be starting a bit of soft boiled veg/fruit for baby led weaning 😊
We only use baby rice to thicken purées like fruit as they can be very runny. Probably only about a teaspoon if that. Is there anything else people are using to thicken the purées?
How/why does it have arsenic in it?
Why would you offer baby rice? It’s flavourless and has the same texture as wallpaper paste; babies at 6 months who are starting weaning want interesting tastes and textures, we want them to be enthusiastic about weaning! Starting solids is not about filling their tummy - that’s what the milk is for, it’s about learning how to chew, move their tongue around and figuring out how to swallow. Lastly baby rice has NO nutritional value at all. It has been created by big food companies for money, they market it from 4 months despite the fact we know how important it is to wait until 6 months - big companies don’t care about the health of your child only money. Avoid.
