Who’s starting maternity leave at 36 weeks?
If you are working until you give birth what are your reasons?
My doctor insisting I go on maternity leave at 36 weeks, basically said no to working till I give birth but it’s only giving my employer 3 week notice.
I’m worried about what my employer is going to say.

I work for myself from home. That's the only reason I'm still working. But with that I've been giving myself a lot of grace and flexibility to take the time I need when I'm exhausted. I barely worked my first trimester because I was so sick =[

Working until birth here! Mainly because my company does not have a pregnancy leave policy. I will have to use short term disability and then PTO to cover my time off/ pay my bills. I don’t even have the pto to cover the time I would like to take, but unfortunately that’s just the way it is here!

I’m in CA and California gives you 6 weeks disability pay and 8 weeks bonding pay after birth for a total of 14 weeks. Are you considering taking more time than 14 weeks?

I’m mainly working because I don’t want to take PTO before she’s her and use my days after I give birth

Indiana gives you nothing! My short term disability gives 4 weeks for vaginal delivery and 6 weeks if C section. After that, we receive nothing. We are forced to take no pay or use any or all PTO. If you don’t have the pto, you go without.
My plan is to take 12 weeks if we can make it that long without me working.

I’m working till birth, because the maternity leave at my job is a joke. Have to pay bills no other option but to work

I’m in a very similar situation!

I'm a veterinary surgery technician, and I'm starting leave thus Thursday. My job is very physically demanding and it's just becoming unbearable. I don't get lunch breaks and I'm on my feet 10 hours a day. Luckily my husband is stepping up to take café of us.

My company gives 3 months leave for 100% pay but leave starts when baby is born

I wish I could at 36! I was going to work until labor, but with this job I decided to take off at 38, and use my pto . I’ll get 20 weeks in total and most likely will get virtually all paid by state but they don’t pay you your full salary unfortunately

My firm gives 14 weeks 100% paid leave but starts once baby is born. I plan to take PTO starting the week before baby is born probably. I work from home though so it’s not the worst thing if I work up until the due date or until I go into labor.

I am also working until 36 weeks.

i’m working up until i can’t so my maternity leave is longer when i actually have the baby so my baby will be older when i go back. i sadly only get 8 weeks so i want all 8 of those to be right when motherhood starts. hopefully that makes sense.

are you in California?

I’m going on maternity leave at 39 weeks. Mostly because my employer does our maternity leave through fmla. So I get up to 12 weeks leave, but it is unpaid. Then I have to do a Small Term Disability claim, and that’s how I get paid- but only 50% of my regular paychecks. I’m also working up until 39 weeks because I have to use some of my PTO when I first go on maternity leave so I’m trying to accrue as much PTO as I can before I go on leave.

In California you can go on disability before birth. I believe it’s up to 4 weeks and a use it or lose it kind of thing. It is separate from the leave you get after baby is born. I’m struggling with the same decision but more so because I want to keep my full wage as long as possible. I’m going to just wait and see how I feel. Check out the SDI and see if that works for you so you don’t have to use your PTO yet.

i’m not, i’m in utah.

thanks! I’ve talk to a few people in California and it almost seems like they didn’t realize that bonding time and disability were two different things which confused me. I talked to my partner and he said we should be financial OK with the reduced pay if I decide to go at 36 weeks which my DR already set for me. She literally was like no, you’re gonna take it off. Use the benefit. Most moms who didn’t take it that I’ve talked to say they wish they did, I’m just struggling to make a decision.

I’m a teacher + don’t get a maternity leave so I will be working up until the day I deliver. 😐 Meanwhile, my HUSBAND gets 6 weeks off PAID. 😵💫

I’m working until I give birth. I live in Georgia and we don’t get any sort of leave or benefits through the state and I haven’t worked a full year just yet at my job to qualify for FMLA in order to keep my insurance while I’m out. So I need to work to hopefully make it to my one year which is a week after my due date. I also have short term disability I can use and some vacation and sick time I can use while I’m out but of course I’m saving it for once she’s here.

Hi! InCalifornia you actually get 4 weeks of disability before birth (at the 36 week mark )and then 6-8 weeks of disability after delivery depending on the type of delivery. Then 12 weeks of FMLA but the last 4 weeks of the 12 are unpaid.
Here is the disability calculator that will give you an estimate of what your benefits will be.

In WA we get 16 weeks of medical/bonding leave, and I can start that during pregnancy but it would come out of the same bucket of leave time, so I would rather use it when baby is here.
I’m 34 weeks and honestly super mentally and emotionally checked out, but I work from home and my team is amazing.. so I’m just pushing through so I can get as much time off with baby as possible. My due date is April 8, but I’m thinking of giving myself a hard stop on April 1 if I don’t go into labor before that.

I'm in California and I'm going on leave at week 36/ March 29. I was hoping to go sooner but my doctor doesn't see any medical need for it 😩 After delivery, I'm taking the 6-8 weeks of disability and then 12 weeks of FMLA. I don't get paid the last 4 weeks but I put some money aside for that month because I don't know when I'll ever be able to take another 4 weeks to be with our son with my job protected. And I think my husband and I are one and done. I've been having some anxiety about the finances but I made a budget and got an estimate of what my weekly benefits will be. Trying to make some cuts to unnecessary spending to make it happen.

I’m a special ed teacher so I’m working till almost full term so my students will be in a better spot and I can keep my pay longer😬

I work from home. So if I don’t work I’ll be bored and start getting anxious may as well make money

I don’t get any maternity leave at my school, so working as long as physically possible!

I’m in the same boat! Sad isnt it?
