Induction?

I am currently 38+2 days, I have an appointment tomorrow and another appointment next week Wednesday. I haven’t been offered any cervical checks, and don’t really think I have any signs of labor happening soon.. my doctor is saying that when I go to my appointment next week they’ll schedule my induction.

Do I need to schedule an induction March 6 if my due date is March 10? I have heard induction makes labor longer / more painful so I am kind of against it? He did say we could try a membrane sweep so I am wondering if I should ask for a membrane sweep tomorrow with the hopes that I go into labor before he wants to schedule my induction next week? I don’t know! Any advice welcome! 🫶🏻

Doctors like to schedule inductions in advance when possible to fit their schedules. You can just say no! ☺️

I went ahead and scheduled an induction for 42 weeks while I was at my 38 week appointment, went into labor naturally at 39 weeks

I did not have a membrane sweep, so I cannot comment on that. But I was induced 01/15 around 3-4pm, gave birth 01/16 at 4:23pm. I could handle the contractions up until a 5, and got the epidural around then. My doctor popped my water around that time, I took a nap, and my baby was ready to be born. I did have a second degree tear, but thanks to the epidural I didn’t even feel anything.

oooh I didn’t even think about asking to schedule an induction for 41/42 weeks - maybe that’s what I will suggest. I’m not comfortable with scheduling an induction just to better their schedule honestly!

thank you! I have friends who have had inductions and their stories have scared me a little 🫣 glad to hear you had a not traumatic birth story 🩷🩷🩷

just remember, it’s your body and your birth! It sounds like your doctor might be a little pushy, which is unfortunately common. If they recommend or insist on any procedure or practice you, have every right to know why and make your own decisions based on their response 🩷

Had a membrane sweep with my first. And my water broke 24 hours later.

Honestly I’m against them cause of this. I was induced and my whole idea of labor went up in smoke. I did not make a mental plan for laboring with medication and I wish I did.

So here’s what my plan is this time. No sweep. And schedule induction at my 40week appointment of I haven’t delivered yet to happen around 41/42 weeks. And I have three birth plans this time. For natural, with medication, and sh!t hits the fan mode.

But my induction was just boring. I wish I knew that I could side lie with nurse assistance to change positions.

Every OB is different. My OB has said that their practice is that you don’t go past 41 weeks because risk of stillbirth increases. So I’m assuming that if I make it to my 40week appt that an induction would be scheduled at that time.

Im scheduling one for the day after my due date at my next appt on Thursday. I refuse to go over 40 weeks lol

My induction date is for exactly 41 weeks on March 9th if he doesn’t come before then. I don’t want to be induced or go past 40 weeks but it’s not deemed medically necessary until after 40 weeks so my ob office tries not to induce unless it’s a medical necessity.

I did get a sweep today so we’ll see if that does anything.

My hospital schedules inductions for after 41 weeks. Because they want you to schedule 2+ weeks out for scheduled they have you do it at your 39 week appt. They likely aren’t pushing you towards an induction next week but rather trying to get you scheduled for a “just in case you go to 41+” induction. Unless they said specifically to induce next week or there is a complication
