Problems with parental leave?

Anyone had problems with their parental leave payment?? I gave birth on the 20th but when I applied for leave I put in for the payments to start on the 20th of May as I was using up annual and parental leave via work first so I could have a few weeks before I was due and didn’t have to go weeks without being paid blah blah.
Anyways, I’ve just had work back pay me for the past five weeks because Centrelink decided my payment is to start on the 22nd of January instead of when I actually put it through for. Meaning I got taxed like half of it. Anyone had the same? I’m on hold with them now but an hour and a half so far on hold is driving me nuts and I’m a little stressed
I hope that makes sense.

Have you spoken with your work about the payment? Based on my experience with payroll (I am a Finance Manager) your work should have received the gross amount of the parental leave. Your work before passing it on to you would then withhold the appropriate tax. You may need to get them to review the way they've done the calculation of tax (or the way the payroll system has) and see if its possible for it to be amended based on what your actual tax position would be for the year, rather than basing it on that one off payment.

I'm not sure centrelink is going to be able to give you the answer given the above.

I know this doesn't help right now, but any amounts that have been over taxed would be refunded to you when you do your return - completely understand though that's months away and not helpful right now.

Feel free to send me a message if you have other questions.

Thank you, I have finally gotten through to Centrelink. They basically admitted that they screwed up and are trying to work out a way to get the money paid back and then restart on the correct dates.
Work basically couldn’t do anything as they are dates associated with the payments or something but if all else fails I’m hoping they’ll push back the dates they’ve paid me or something. But fingers crossed they can work something out.

So glad to hear you got through and it's getting sorted - that would be a relief. Hope it's all fixed soon!

Glad you got through to them! I’m still waiting for my claim to be approved I’ve been on hold for over an hr and a half now. How long after submitted did yours get approved?

hopefully yours goes through soon! Mine was approved after about four weeks but work got the funds after five

I submitted over 6weeks ago 🙄 they said it should be approved by 21/2 but here we are still nothing!

I received a granted letter from centerlink, but i didnt receive any money yet. My baby is 6 weeks now and i submitted my claim before her birth. amy idea which phone number is working. Coz the one i am trying is saying that ‘all the operators are busy’.

Centrelink pay on a six weekly cycle - bub was born 8 Jan and mine got approved last week of Jan but my work didn't receive the funds until end of the first week of Feb (so almost two weeks) - the app should tell you when the payment itself will go through in the manage my payments section.

I checked on the app. No payments are showing. My payment is going to deliver by my employer. Do i need to chase the payroll team or manager?? or do i need to call centrelink?

probably best to go into a centrelink office - trying to get through on the phone is impossible at the moment. You'll get a letter confirming the dates etc when they've processed bub's proof of birth. If you check in payment history, it'll show as a $0 payment but if you open it up you'll see that it's been sent to your employer.

yes, it is showing exactly same as u mentioned. What should i do now?

Check the date of the payment - if it's passed, check in with your payroll at work because they'll have the money and you'll need to find out what their processes are (my work pays whatever funds there are in their normal monthly pay run), if it's in the future, you'll just need to wait until the date passes and then contact your employer.
