Trixie as a girls name….everyone seems to hate it.

When I was pregnant with my first I always knew I wanted a particular name and just had to try and convince my husband that he liked it too :)
But so it wasn’t too obvious I was set on a particular name I made a list of names and I asked him what his grandmother’s names were (as I’ve always liked some of the “older” names) and one of my husbands Nan’s was called Trixie.
I thought it was really cute but he said my MIL would be pissed if we went for it as she hated her own MIL (Trixie) and would think we had chosen it to “spite” her 🙄

This time round I just can’t seem to get the name out of my head! I really really like it (and also know there is a character on call the midwife called Trixie) but it seems that most people (I haven’t mentioned to MIL yet) seem to pull a face and say “oh….Trixie….thats an unusual name”. So now I’m doubting myself.
Am I just hormonal? Do I like it just because I know it will annoy my MIL? Will my daughter be picked on if I name her Trixie? I’m just really confused.

I try to picture myself calling my daughter in my head (Fraya, Amelia, Scarlett, Isobel/Izzy) and if it doesn’t feel right after a few days then I move on to another but I keep coming back to Trixie.

Is it that bad a name??????

To me the name is the nickname from Beatrice…I only say this as Trixie is in Call the Midwife and her full name is Beatrice. I haven’t heard it as an actual name before but as a nickname

I love it 🥰

I love it! The only full names I can think of for it are Beatrix or Bellatrix (I love Bellatrix)

I love it, it's your baby and you can call her whatever you like. We never say the name until baby is born, and i dont really care what others think. Our moms couldn't remember kids names at start but got used to them 🙂

I wanted to name my daughter Trixie after my great nan she was a Beatrice but everyone called her Trixie. But I got so much stick for it and everyone kept telling me it's a dog's name and that I would be cruel for naming her that 🙄 luckily I also liked the name Callie so Trixie is her middle name, I have slipped up and called her trix though weirdly enough. But I love it so much it holds such a special place in my heart and I say go for it 🥰

That’s just not cute in my opinion lol

why are you commenting on a UK 🇬🇧 group if you live in US? And the question wasn’t if the name was cute, it was if it was ok as a name rather than a nickname

Yeah but “ok” could mean many things…. I figured u wanted opinions on it honestly. Calm down

@Yasmine there's a difference between honesty and just being mean and insensitive... I figured you'd want an honest opinion on it 👍

ok well I don’t think it’s insensitive some people I guess r too sensitive….. I even said I think that’s just not cute “IN MY OPINION”

@Yasmine then maybe the lesson to learn here is that not everybody needs to know your mean thoughts/opinions?? Do you have the expression over there "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything"? We teach it to our kids. Maybe try that lol
