High temperature

We got a really high temperature for a few days before any symptoms appeared and it turned out to be hand foot and mouth. We did end up in hospital though because she stopped eating and drinking for days x

how long was it for if you don’t mind me asking? This started on Tuesday morning and I just feel so helpless 😔x

As above it can be common with hf&m we have the same every time. We've been told, idk how right it is, that now they're not under 3 months, the temperature itself isn't so much an issue but how quickly they get hot that can cause issues. Ibuprofen can often work better than calpol for them as well so it's fine to use together or interchangeably if that's what works the best. If it gets that high unless she needs calpol too we tend to stick to ibuprofen now xx

Firstly, hope you’re okay! I know the stress of going through this. My daughter had a temp of 40.5 and was taken to hospital.

It turned out she had tonsillitis. She had no other symptoms, luckily they checked down her throat properly. As she normally bites the stick and stops the doctor from looking.

You’re doing the right thing with calpol, I also give baby nurofen and just spread both out throughout the day.

Also, I know it’s cold outside but I had babe in just her nappy or just some leggings. It brought her temp to normal quite quickly xx

My baby had this but she had ear and throat infection. We went on for 4 days with calpol and nurofen every 4h . We saved the nurofen for the nights as thats when the fever was at its worst . She was put on antibiotics on the 4th day . But during these 4 days we went to the hospital every night as I couldn’t bring her fever down and they have done nothing for her and said to just wait 4 days and see if fever goes down . I just think it is ridiculous in my case as I don’t see how an infection can clear up by itself.

I do believe high fevers as 40+ are dangerous for infants due to risk of convulsions but just my opinion.

What helped with my babe was wet muslin cloth and the water at room temperature in a large bowl , not cold but not warm either , and wet the cloth again as soon as it was getting warm from baby .
We put one on her forehead and one on her chest and tummy.

My baby had this when he was about 10m old. We took him to hospital in the end (after waiting for about 6hrs for a 30 minute 111 call back) and he had the most horrendous tonsillitis.
He’s had it once more since then, exactly the same symptoms so luckily I knew what to look out for. If you are worried, keep going back to the drs/hospital. My husband was reluctant and didn’t like how much I was pushing to go back to a doctor but I knew I had to advocate for him as I just knew something wasn’t right. Go with your gut as you know your baby best x

I was told if they’ve had a fever for 5 days then to take them to A&E. hope they feel better soon!
Also keep an eye out for signs of sepsis, not saying that’s what it is but better to be vigilant x

A couple of weeks ago my son had 4 days of constant temperatures, often reaching the 40’s. I’d end up having to pair calpol and ibuprofen (roughly an hour apart) as one alone wasn’t enough to bring it down. He had no other symptoms and like you I was told it was viral. Then it just suddenly stopped! He was fine in himself the entire time as well aside from nighttime’s where he was more unsettled x
