How can I toddler proof chairs?

At that point we had to start using the word no, climbing is normal at that age so we would simple say no and if that didn’t work we would go get them down and use the word no while getting them down to associate it together. We have baby proofed as much as we can to make our 20 month old feel independent and included.

Welcome to the climbing stage. I’d reccomend getting rid of all your furniture and getting a nice ass and fine legs from holding a squat all day. 🤣🤣

I think my girl is 21 months (2 in June and I lost track lol) she’s been in the phase for a hot minute now. You just have to keep up with consistent corrective actions. Don’t over react, don’t laugh or really show emotion about it. Say no and take her off. I let mine climb the chair to sit at the table with us so I reenforce this is an eating space when she climbs to the table.

Mine actually has fallen off the chair bc she wanted to bounce in it while eating and it was hilarious. She hasn’t bounced in it since.

(Yes I stopped her, this was on her second chance.)

I got a toddler slide thinking he could climb it instead. He started pushing it around to use as a ladder to climb onto other furniture. He gets on my coffee table all the time... I'm so over this stage! I just keep telling him no, explain why, and take him off said furniture. When he falls, I comfort him first and validate his feelings, then I explain thay is why we shouldn't climb.... One day it will click. One day

... there was a day I was too tired to correct, I literally put the chair in a position that mine couldn't pick it back up.

I've seen several things done.

One was to use a strap tied to the table legs and then across the backs of the chairs so that they couldn't pull them out and thus stop climbing.

I've seen someone turn their type of chair over so the legs are under the table and the child can't pull the chair out. I do still feel like my LO would find a way to climb this.

We don't have room for a dining room table but we do have a cat tower, rocking chair, bookshelf, and a children's desk my LO loves to try to climb. Anytime she would try to climb something I would take her foot and put it in the ground and say "feet on the floor" Now I can just say it and point to the floor and she is mostly good about following this direction.

You keep them in another room until it’s time to use them. I know it’s a pain but it’s what we have to do.

Omg I told my son’s dad we are getting rid of all the furniture because my kid does this too! Next thing I know he’s standing in the recliner rocking back and forth! These kids… lol
