People say LO looks like my husband

My SIL constantly says that our lil boy looks exactly like my husband and nothing like me. It really hurts my feelings. We have two other boys from my husbands previous marriage and I have raised them since they were super little (birth mom really isn’t in the picture) and yet I always have to justify that I am just as much a mother figure in their life. But to now feel like for our little one that he doesn’t even look like me? Am I being too sensitive?

Hi Jessica. I’ve been in the same situation. I don’t think you’re being too sensitive and I’m sorry that they’re constantly saying such things.

The harsh reality is that people don’t understand these comments hurt our feelings. I was very vocal about this with my husband and he realized it too after seeing how often it was happening. I’d say talk to your husband and know that people aren’t saying such things to intentionally hurt you :)

Thank you! I understand that it isn’t intentional so I try to pull myself back from reacting negatively. I always just want to say, hey, I’m in there too 🥺

My husbands family claims all 3 of my kids look like him.. I think my 9 year old looks more like me, but our 15-year-old does look a lot like him. It would make me annoyed, but now I just try to remember they remember when he was a baby/child, and they have seen tons of younger pictures of him where they haven't seen any of me. They are trying to match my adult face with a child, which is harder than matching a child with a child if that makes sense. As soon as all the kids are born in my family, they like to say :oh they have (my maiden name) ears." Like wtf does that even mean? All the kids have different ears. Haha. I think people just say stuff because they just want to open their mouths sometimes.

My mom is Chinese and my dad is white. Everyone thinks I’m Hispanic. So I looked nothing like either of my parents. I loved my mom fiercely (she passed from cancer) if that helps. Me not looking like her didn’t make me love her less. Fast forward to today-I was unable to have a baby with my own eggs. We found a donor who was my racial mix-white and Chinese. My husband is Japanese. Our baby boy looks COMPLETELY Japanese. I’m pretty sure that even if we are able to use my eggs, the baby would have never looked like me anyways. Needless to say, of course everyone thinks he looks like his father since we look like completely different races! But I’m crazy about him and he’s crazy about me. The only that annoys me is that people have literally asked if I’m his nanny. So…at least people think you’re his mother? Silver lining LOL?

when I spoke to my husband, that is exactly what he said. That his family only has his baby photos to compare too. And that if he is a handsome boy, it’s only because I made him so well 🥰 so that helped yesterday lol
