Premature water break and induction with GBS?

Yes you will be strongly recommended to be induced. Your antibiotics will be given IV so you can’t just go home and take them.

Why would I need to be induced if I am taking antibiotics?

Because there’s a risk of further infection if your waters go and you’re not in labour. Antibiotics can help to prevent infection but there’s still a risk baby can be affected

Hoping to also talk to people who did not get induced who were in the same situation and what their experience was like and if they were able to successfully prevent induction?

Please look into how dangerous GBS is. Is preventing induction worth your child’s life?

If your waters break, and you have GBS you will very much be recommended induction. When mine went, I ended up having the rest broken to trigger labour. It’s important to delver the baby safely and quickly once your waters break. Why do you want to avoid induction?

I’ve done my due research hence the question. GBS is extremely rare 1% out of all successful births. Even with antibiotics the risk goes down to 0.8%. There is no evidence that Induction and delivery within 24hrs is mandatory and one can wait 48-72 hours for labor to start on its own so again induction with premature water breaking is not needed if one goes part 48hr mark.
Thirdly the rate of deaths in developed countries like US and Canada is extremely low because of the NICU facilities that are available.
Fourthly if premature water breaks then 80% people go into labor on their own without induction.
Hence my question.

Trying to ask a question where I’ve done my due research and have a question around more supportive mums that have been in this situation. If you haven’t please come reply to this post and keep out of it. I wasn’t asking for your opinion rather asking who else has been in this situation.

so did you not need an induction and were able to go into labor naturally?

I really didn’t want a c section either. But when the time comes, you’ll do everything you can to make sure that baby arrives safely. I personally chose to trust in the medical professionals and we’re both safe after a situation that likely could have killed us. You don’t necessarily need an epidural if you’re induced, I know people who did a pain relief free birth with induction (there’s a number of ways you can be induced).

I had the rest of my waters broken, and that triggered labour. But there were other complications after labouring for a day and resulted in us needing a cat 1 emergency section (starting with having meconium in the waters, then went a bit downhill from there). I had antibiotics all throughout that time as I had GBS

Hey, I was GBS positive and my water broke at home. When I went to the hospital they told me that I would need an induction not because of GBS, I was getting antibiotics for that but because after your water breaks you may get an infection (the more hours pass the more possibilities) anyway I really didn’t want an induction so I waited till 2am (water broke at 7am the previous morning) and eventually accepted pitocin. Mind you I had already requested a c section but they thought an induction was better…I ended up with a c section.

An emergency c section by the way, because they waited too long and my baby’s heart rate dropped suddenly. I was asking them for a c section since the day before.

If your waters break and you don’t go into Labour then you will need to be induced. Not even because of GBS but because your waters have broke, the fluid that keeps baby alive is going to keep doing down. If you don’t get induced your baby will literally not have fluid in your belly to be able to survive ? I was induced and had medication free Labour. If you’re strong minded it’s very possible

could you describe how you coped with the contractions? I hear pitocin induced contractions are contractions on crack.

Yeah I’d heard the same 😂. I have nothing to compare it to, but I’d do it again. It was painful of course, but I think it’s very manageable. I genuinely believe getting through labour is all in the mind. I did a hypnobirthing course and just focused on my breathing. I counted out loud when I had a contraction, in for 5 and out for 7. I was so focused on the counting, the contraction was like a secondary thought. I had said my whole pregnancy I was not having an epidural so I had that in my mind too and kept telling myself that & that I could get through this. Stay positive and calm and you will be fine. It’s a completely different experience and I think people panic and that’s when they feel like it’s impossible to do. I had about 20 minutes of panic and I lost focus on the counting and lost my calm and I felt so much more pain. I also had GBS but that wasn’t the reason for induction x

that’s a sweeping statement… I did a lot of research and made a choice I felt was safest for me and my baby. I also took advice from my MIL who is a midwife and has delivered thousands of babies.

yes I’ve heard that UK does not test for GBS and manages the baby’s symptoms if they contract it. I mean why US and Canada over scare people I will never understand. Jeez

I’m in the same situation 👋🏻 38 weeks pregnant and GBS+. I would ideally like to avoid induction but the positive GBS result has changed things. If I’m in labour or waters go I think I will accept low levels of the hormone drip to speed things along if it appears things are going slowly. If no progress, I’ll ask for a c-section. I originally thought about electing for a c-section to reduce risk for the baby but the more I read about recovery, the more I want to avoid it! X
