Underwhelming first swim class?

Bubba is about to be 14 months and we had his first swim class. I know they first have to get comfortable but I guess I just wanted to see what you guys thought. All we did was splash and play in the water with some minimal instruction. Do these classes get better? Is it more for social aspects and water comfort or can they really learn?

I took my daughter to a swim class when she was 8 months old and day one we were dunking them under and helping them back float. Maybe they have different levels of classes. The one I took her too was once a week for a month and by the end of the month she was back floating pretty much solo. I had my hand supporting her head but she was doing the rest.

Dang okay let me see how the next classes go and worst case I start a new one after this one

We started swim lessons three weeks ago and they dunk her 6x per lesson. She’s worked up to 3 seconds of breath holding and only do it with my permission. We work on finding the edge of the pool, hanging from the edge to build strength, and climbing out. The rest of the time it’s organized play and songs with back floats.

wow. Okay what was your class called? Like what did you look for that’s different? If this one doesn’t get better I’ll have to find a more intense one so it’s not a waste of time

Definitely worth looking around to see what curriculums they follow
