Tablets and screen time
What are your thoughts on screen time? I feel like I messed up royally with my eldest and she had way to much when she was younger as I was a work from home mom who was also doing school. I don't have her on the tablet in the store or at restaurants but I definitely think she had it too often. Should I just not let my youngest have one? My spouse thinks the baby shouldn't have any screen time and gets very upset if I let her watch a super simple songs video.

Honestly my 5 year old has a tablet and she watches learning videos all the time but she’s not on it all day. I set a timer for 2 hours 2 times a day to where she can watch her tablet and learn weather it learning videos or learning games. And now with the tv yea she’ll watch it from time to time but she mostly don’t even pay attention to it when she’s playing with her toys I mostly just have it on as noise in her room
I do the same to all my kids. If you do it to one kid you have to do it to the other. Or if not your showing favoritism
We let our oldest (she's my step child) watch more when she was younger and even when our baby was newer but we don't do screens with our littlest at all so we've transitioned almost entirely away from them now with our oldest. We just do a movie night on Fridays after the baby is in bed, it's made that super special since our oldest gets us to herself and there isn't screens throughout the week. It's was tricky at first with the "I'm bored" but that's gone now and it's been great!
All studies show that no screen time until 2 is best, and even after that keep it super limited. It helps with imagination, attention retention, and so much more. It also helps with behavior expectations.
We don’t allow our 15 month on screens and limit ourselves when we’re with him. We play kids songs like super simple on Spotify for him and he has a Toniebox for stories since he’s not super into sitting through an entire book just yet.
I turn on ms. Rachel for about an hour a day when I need to cook dinner and do a few chores before bed time. She also gets to watch Ms. Rachel if we are in the car for a long time because she isn’t fond of car rides. That’s as much as I allow but honestly I don’t feel bad about it. She is way ahead with her speech and i think that is partially because her dad and i talked to her constantly in her first months but also ms. rachel is like having a pre school teacher in the living room. its great.
I'll occasionally put a cartoon on the TV for my daughter but other than that I don't let her on a tablet or phone.
