Employable names?

Last night my sister said if she had a kid she would name her child Ocean so I like that one personally. I think Tide and Reef would not be good options for a persons name but everything else is nice.

maybe… if you were to name your children beachy names it would instead act as a filter for future employment. you probably wouldn’t want them working around people or in an environment that would discriminate against them just because their name is unusual anyways.

For a girl maybe summer? Season names are employable.

Any name is employable if you use it and they want a job. Unless you’re a person of colour and then there’s prejudice everywhere.
What about Vance as a middle name?

I know of boys named Ocean Brisson, Kona Hawk, and Coast Corey. I totally know what you mean in finding balance between styles, it has to be done right. Names I like that might fit your style:

We have a Jackson Wilder and our other boy name is Noah Zander because we are the same way, wanted to keep it classic but strong/cool so they could decide later which they wanted to go by. Our girl names are still pretty classic, I couldn’t find any unique that I loved

I have a Bodie Travis, never even considered it might be a surfer vibe 😆 I wanted Bodhi but his dad didn't like the H spelling 🫠

i love the names Barnaby and Tobias, but i also like names with a more beachy/nature vibe - Bodhi and Loxley are both cute. i would honestly just go with the name you love most - if the beachy/surfer style is mroe your vibe, try not to overthink it.

i think the concept of a name being "employable" is pretty outdated nowadays - and certainly by the time your child is looking for employment. unusual names are far more usual now, so by the time your child is looking for jobs, people won't bat an eyelid at names like Ocean or Cove, in the same that you have lawyers & doctors named Pixie and Meadow etc - they are "out there" names to people from a generation who were adamant that a child named Charlie would never be employed unless his parents named his Charles and used Charlie as a nickname. 🤷🏻‍♂️

as said, if a future employer judges your kid on their name rather than their skills etc, i'd just see it as a sign it was a discriminatory & judgemental environment where i wouldn't want my kid to work.

by the time children this age are ready to work those names won't even be classed as 'unusual' or different as there are so many unique names out there now.

Also an employer should never write someone off just down to their name alone, that to me is ridiculous. It has nothing to do with work ethic/commitment or intellect.
