Holiday abroad

Not yet but have booked to go to Tenerife in July with our baby girl who will be 9 weeks old. I did so much research and asking people and it seems the younger they are the better it is to go abroad x

We travelled internationally 4 times in his first year, including twice long haul. It’s really not as bad as you imagine it’s going to be!

Depends on age as well. He’s now a toddler and I don’t think I’d do long haul again for quite a few years now as he wouldn’t cope being cooped up, he just wants to run and climb everywhere so the flights wouldn’t be fair on him and he’d end up tantruming. But short haul at this age wouldn’t bother me

We did Fuerteventura the when our lo was 10 months, the 4 hour fight was hard lo didn't cry or get upset but just would not stay still she wanted to get on floor to crawl and just climbed over us and tried getting to people sat behind us and stealing the from the guy sat next to us luckily he found it quite funny. The transfer from airport to hotel was also not fun as she again didn't want to sit still. But the holiday itself was amazing seeing her reaction to things for the first time was just priceless she loved the pool and water park at the hotel she's a proper water baby now. Going to the beach and seeing her laughing as the sea water touched her feet was heart melting. We hired a car and car seat for a few days so drove around the island visiting parks and the zoo. Her laughter as we pushed her on swing was just pure joy! Memories we will treasure forever definitely glad we did it.

If you do decide to go my tips would be do a short flight, hire a car and carseat that you can collect at the airport then your not waiting for transfer and can stop as needed en route to hotel. Take new toys your lo has not see before. If lo is old enough for food take lots of snacks, feed on take off and landing to avoid ears popping. Download stuff for lo on tab or phone. You can take buggy right upto boarding just need to get a tag from checking desk. Take a carrier on the plane then you can put baby in when you land as it may take a little time to get your buggy back from baggage claim. Most airlines have priority boarding for families with under 5s and at boarder control you may be able to skip the queue. If your formula feeding take the pre made bottles you the limit of liquids doesn't count for baby food. Just make sure you have it in a separate tray from your other stuff when going through security. Also most people are nice and understanding so don't worry about baby disturbing other passengers.

The earlier you start getting them travelling and getting used to it the better.

She’s done 21 flights now and we’ve never had a bad one.
