I really need some help, in pretty much at my wits end.
So my little girl is suffering with eczema and is constantly trying to scratch and her skin looks so uncomfortable.
I’ve been back and fourth to the GP 3 times in the last two weeks (including and out of hours today at broomfield)
I’ve removed all soaps from her bath and only washing with water and diprobase (eczema cream). I’m drying her completely after her bath and loading her with aveeno dermexa for babies afterwards and swapping to the balm version of a night time. I’m also topping up her creams at each nappy change and nothing seems to be touching it or easing it.
I’m having to constantly keep her in scratch mits which feels so nasty but I can’t trust her out of them, she will pull her hair and scratch till she breaks skin.
Each time I go to the GP I’m told to carry on as I am and the next stage would be a referral to dermatology but we “aren’t there yet”
I feel so awful because she’s so uncomfortable but I just don’t know what else I can do.
Has anyone been through a similar thing and tried anything that worked?

Have you tried aveeno dermarex? It’s the only thing working for my little boy at moment. My eldest also had bad eczema and was under dermatology for over a year, if you’re unhappy push for the referral. Sending big hugs and hope you get sorted xx

I’ve tried aveeno dermexa I’m not sure if that’s a different one? Yeah I think I’m going to have to as I’m sick to death of “seeing how it goes” because it’s clearly not going well 🙃

A hospital consultant once told me to cry at the gp and insist firmly on a referral 😂 it’s a sad situation when we get to that 🙁
Unfortunately I think you’ve tried what we have 🙁 another recommendation I was given was Robersons eczema relief xx

I don’t know if you breastfeed but breast milk can be amazing for eczema. Otherwise keep pushing at the doctors, I think doctors are definitely too relaxed half the time and don’t realise the extend of the problem as they aren’t seeing it happen all day 😭

What about an oatmeal bath? Don’t think it will treat it but may ease itching slightly, it used to work on my sisters eczema just to help her get some relief and sleep x

oh I’ve done plenty of that this afternoon so I’m sure I could turn it on at the appointment I’ll be making on Monday!
It is such a shame that it gets to this but as someone else has said, doctors don’t see what they’re like day in and day out.

I’ll take any recommendations at this point just to note down if the doctors continue to be a load of poop so thank you!!

I did breastfeed but unfortunately supply dried up after three weeks. I have been trying to power pump to get my supply back but no luck so far

I was just reading about that online. Doctors told me to remove everything from her bath and just use the eczema cream as a wash but I’m willing to try anything at the moment as the cream doesn’t seem to be easing it in any shape or form

I’m so sorry, it’s so upsetting when that happens. I’m currently in the same situation power-pumping seems to be my life at the moment 😅 fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼

we used to use rolled oats in a soak over the end of the bath tap x

Hi lovely I really feel for you eczema is an absolute beast (both my boys have it thanks to my husband!😭)
Like above I know it’s hard to be recommended new creams but it really is trial and error, what works for my first doesn’t for my second and etc… so absolutely trial a few and see if you have luck with them!
I’ve found good creams are:
From the chemist or gp can prescribe - junior oilatum cream, works a dream for my first son
Oilatum Junior Cream for Eczema and Dry Skin Conditions 500 ml https://amzn.eu/d/cfDlkZt
- eucerin baby eczema relief cream works AMAZINGLY for my second baby (4 months old atm!)
Eucerin Baby Eczema Relief Body Cream - Steroid & Fragrance Free for 3+ Months of Age - 8 Oz. Tube https://amzn.eu/d/4BA6eaI
-The weleda calendula range to calm things (face cream), not eczema specific but calendula is very calming so could help…
- also if it needs it then a steroid might be needed to get it under control, don’t be scared of it if needed, will work wonders!
Xxx

Also sounds silly but water is very very drying ironically, but don’t over wash! So a bath every other day might really help.
You literally cannot moisturise too much.
The eczema society is brilliant, has a helpline you can call as well ❤️

We also ended up using the body shop hemp cream for my sisters hands as they were so broken and cracked and it worked wonders but have no idea if this would be suitable for a bubba

Honestly I think your best bet is actually going a&e
Drs don't really seem to help much in so many situations and a&e might be your best bet they can also help to push for referrals
That or your hv they can also help push referrals for things so I'd give one of those a try if you haven't already!
If you go a&e you could refuse to leave until something is sorted and really milk it like I can only imagine how stressed and upset you are but lay it on thick so they know how you're feeling!
Different situation but I did this with my lb when he was 3 weeks old for something that could have killed him I refused to leave and really put on the water works everything and he got sent to Whitechapel hospital and had the much needed op the next day

Fortunately, my GP was really understanding and helpful when I went to see her about my little boy's rash.
She said it was probably a form of dermatitis and prescribed Epimax ointment to apply throughout the day and Oilatum bath formula for his bath.
We've used both and had good results. The GP actually got a second opinion though and prescribed hydrocortisone instead, I was a little dubious about using a steroid cream, but honestly it's been amazing.
It's so hard seeing them frustrated isn't it, push for something more if what you've used isn't working.

Hi, my LB had a flare up on his chest last week that I couldn’t get control off using the usual epimax and hydrocortisone cream. GP prescribed double base which I use every nappy change and in the bath and betnovate steroid cream which I use in the evening. It’s honestly been a game changer and cleared it completely

My baby boy has been prescribed hydrocortisone cream, i was told to apply it to the red inflamed areas twice daily - I was really worried about giving a medicated cream also but it definitely clears it and soothes the itchiness.
He was also prescribed Cetraben for a more all day, everyday cream but I find it doesn't really keep the redness from coming back so I will be requesting an alternative to try.
Before these prescriptions, I used to use Aveeno, and when I tried the Dermexa range, it gave him the worst reaction, i think it was too harsh for his skin x

I’d recommend reducing baths as much as you can. My LG has eczema and we bath twice per week, sometimes once if they have been no poo explosions!

Thanks all. I used to bath her every other day but I’m going to reduce that to every three days to start to see if that helps. I’ve got my MIL getting some oat soak to have in her bath today and I’ve also got a delivery from next of kind to skin body suits and sleep suits arriving today also(planning on using those after her bath)
Little one was on a steroid cream collectively for three weeks so the doctor has put a stop to that for now, when we was using it all rash and redness cleared within hours 😱 but they want to give her skin a break from that.
Guess it’s just the nature of the beast but I’ve made notes of all recommendations and even got some on order!
Can’t thank you all enough, definitely helped when I was up to my eyeballs with stress yesterday
