I am moving to Bristol BS3 in May and I have just found out I am pregnant 😊 Can anyone recommend a good hospital with a maternity ward nearby?

Go to southmead hospital 100%! there is also St michaels which may be closer however southmead is way better in my opinion. I just gave birth there last week and had absolutely amazing care, especially on the post natal ward afterwards i had SO much support from the midwives there and they even brought me mother’s day gifts

Southmead have a lovely midwife led birthing suite that quite literally looks like a spa, plus a consultant led delivery suite right next door

you’re making me want to go to Southmead now 😂 I’m only about 11 weeks so haven’t even had my first scan yet (it’s next week) but it’s at st Michaels so not sure how that’ll go. Do you get to choose where you want to give birth?

St Michaels, I love it there (closest for me, so never been to southmead) I’ve used st Michaels for both my pregnancies! xx

You can chat to your midwife about it. In BS3, St Michaels is closer so they usually assume that, but you can opt for Southmead I think.

St michaels we’re amazing when I was pregnant and during my labour / emergency c section xx

Southmead was amazing, I had so much support and when there was a slight complication my midwife was in total control and I felt very safe and well looked after! I’ve also heard fantastic things about st Michael’s

At Michael's and southmead are both great from my experiences. I would say that if you intend to drive and park at the hospital for your visits then St mike's has much more limited parking which can be annoying/stressful.

I live closer to southmead but have opted for St Mike's due to poor experience from a few people close to me at southmead, however I think experience really does vary from person to person and it seems plenty have had good experiences too. My care in the community is under North Bristol but my scans are done at St Mike's which was sorted out once I let my midwife know where I'd prefer to give birth ☺️

Thank you so much for all the recommendations 😊

I had first baby at st Michs in the midwife led unit and they were amazing. Chose to have second baby at southmead midwife led centre and they were also amazing! You can ask your midwife to change hospitals and it will be fine. I wanted to swap from to southmead for my second baby as they have more birth pools there and was keen to try get in one for birth again!
