Tongue tie

It certainly can, that was the case for me.

I had pain for 4 months breastfeeding
They checked my daughter in hospital after birth and said no tie, then i had her checked again as i thought she had a lip tie but they said its not.
Frustrating bec i was in so much pain but kept feeding regardless.
Seems like what looked like a tie has corrected itself as shes grown. Shes not had any issues with feeding nor was her speech affected.

Theyre super reluctant to cut a tie unless baby isnt feeding well or having any adverse effects of the tie.

I would highly suggest getting the tie checked and get a 2nd opinion before getting it cut x

update, two midwives checked at the hospital the other day and said she didn’t have one and shown me how to get her to latch properly. I still didn’t feel 100% so I asked the midwife to check her again today at her 5 day check and she said it seems like she might have one so we’ve been referred and they will check at the hospital. If you’re unsure definitely keep pushing them to check!

did it get cut?

Yes, but not until 6 months as we were told it wasn’t limiting her tongue function. I just assumed I was having to use nipple shields because mine aren’t particularly big and happen to be very sensitive.

We only had it cut as our daughter wasn’t gaining enough weight and after speaking to a breastfeeding councillor it appeared clearer that having to use nipple shield and slow weight gain was down to the tie. We had it cut privately to avoid the wait and within a week I wasn’t using nipple shield and it wasn’t painful. Xx
