Thoughts after baby #1

I come from a pretty large family and always thought I wanted at least 4. I’m really close with my siblings my brother and I are 18 months apart and we were always really close. My sweet girl will be 8 months at the end of the month and I find myself saying what if we only had one and everytime I take a test just to check I kinda hope it’s negative. That makes me feel sad that I have such mixed feelings but I want her to have siblings close in age but I want to give her all of the attention I feel like she deserves. Does that mean I’m just not ready? Does the mixed feelings about having more every go away?

I think it’s just too soon. You’ll eventually start to get that baby fever again

I think our generation has totally different than our parents and that means having big families might be harder for us or maybe not close together

I felt this exact way then I found out I was pregnant and I cannot be more excited for her to have a sibling. Since I still wanted her to be my only for a while and to spoil her with all the love and attention I’m making sure to be more intentional with it until my second gets her

It’s so soon! Just wait until you’re ready and it’s okay if you never feel that way too. One is okay too! I unexpectedly got pregnant after 9 months with my first. It was a shock and I wasn’t ready. I grieved and had severe mom guilt because my baby was still a baby. My second is 6 months old now and I wouldn’t change it for the world but if I would have picked I would have waited another year. It’s been hard! So full of love but hard to give two kiddos so young the attention they both deserve. Every day I change my mind if I want to be done or not which is okay and means we’ll wait a bit to decide.

I thought after having my girl I could have another because I love her so much and I love the newborn stage. I have since decided not to and honestly want my hubs to get a vasectomy. I stop and think about how rough pregnancy was and how traumatic her birth was and it stops me. Also I feel we can give her so much more in life if she is the only one. I think if you are wishy washy though it's good to wait.

My two are 18 months apart. I am/have been really struggling from pregnancy with a toddler, to newborn with a toddler, to toddler and a crawler… I’m looking forward to when they are a bit older and more into in the same phase together but it’s been really hard right now.

On the plus side though we see almost zero jealousy and I’m not sure my first son even remembers being an only child.

Make sure you really want it, I had to keep reminding myself I planned this age gap and it did slightly help keep me positive. (Not that you can’t find other ways to be positive if it happens spontaneously.) Good luck!
