When making bottles, do you boil the kettle then leave it to cool for 30 minutes, before then measuring it out and adding the required amount of scoops, or do you measure and add the scoops as soon as it’s boiled? All the tubs I’ve seen instruct you to leave the water in the kettle for 30 mins, but no one that I talk to does this! I’m questioning whether I’m making my daughters top-up formula bottles correctly now!

When I used to use the kettle I would boil it, leave the water in the kettle for 30 mins, then pour the water into the bottle and add the scoops of formula in

I add scoops to the boiled water as I read that it gets rid of bacteria in the formula.. I could be wrong I’m still learning!

I read that adding the formula to just boiled water gets rid of a lot of the nutrients in the milk because it’s too hot, and so to leave it for 30 mins. But the water still needs to be above 71° to kill the bacteria. There’s so much conflicting information out there that I honestly don’t think anyone knows right from wrong! 🤷🏼♀️ Luckily my kettle shows the temperature of the water in it, so I usually leave it for around 10 mins (as I don’t boil as much as the tub states) and use it when it displays the temp as being just above 70°! x

The guidance to wait 30 minutes is so the water is not too hot for baby to drink.
It’s also so the boiling water doesn’t kill all the nutrients in the formula.
I used to just add a hot shot of boiling water, and then top it up with cooled boiled water

I’ve just re-read the instructions on my formula tin and it definitely says to leave the water in the kettle for 30 mins before putting into the bottle so the way you are doing it is correct

that makes much more sense! Although the tub then goes on to state further down (once you’ve shaken it to mix the powder), to then leave it to cool to natural body temp and check it on your wrist before feeding to baby x

I’ve always added it straight to boiling water😂 my little boy is 20 weeks, 4x 7oz bottles a day and weighing 17lb 3 1/2oz. I don’t think it’s doing him any harm lol.

I actually fill up a flask, as boiling the kettle about 7 times a day was costing us more than I realised. And waiting half an hour is not in my babies vocabulary 😂

that’s what I do. A flask lasts me 2 bottles😂😂
