Any advice?

My 3 week old little one only takes 10-30 minute naps for the last week or so. All of a sudden she just hates her crib and wakes up screaming. By the time we feed her, change her and get her back to sleep she’s been up for 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending how mad she is about sleeping. We tried doing contact naps all day yesterday to get her some rest but there’s been no change today.

I know it’s too early for her to have a set schedule or sleep train but I feel like I’m really struggling and worried she isn’t sleeping enough.. is anyone else going through this? Any advice?

Every baby is different so I’m not sure if what I do will help but my girl, 6 weeks tomorrow pretty much only sleeps when she’s laying down on my chest, so chest to chest basically and that’s the only position. Same thing with standing, she’ll only start to doze off when she’s upright against my chest. Anytime I try to put her down she wakes up BUT I did just try putting her on her stomach in her bassinet (completely monitored of course) and she’s been napping a decent amount that way. So maybe your babe needs to find her position ?

How does she sleep in the car or stroller? We found that our month old is a motion baby. Loves rocking, car seat or walks in the stroller. If he gets changed, fed and then taken on a walk, he normally falls asleep and stays asleep. We’ll let him finish his nap in the stroller so we don’t disturb him

Same thing here. I just ordered a MomaRoo rocker/chair at the suggestion of another mom. Said the motion is the only thing that calmed her baby. Worth a shot!

Do you use a swaddle? I’ve found that naps without a swaddle are much shorter for my 3 week old as well! With the swaddle she sleeps closer to 1.5 hours, sometimes up to 4 hours

We swaddle, use blackout curtains and white noise, shushing and cuddling. She thinks rocking and swinging are exciting. She has fallen asleep in the stroller once but mostly stays awake. We might start mixing in a car ride, but were really hoping to find something sleep safe where we could get some sleep as well. We’re going on a week plus where naps are getting consistently shorter and last night she gave up sleeping at night as well. Bought the mamaroo out of desperation last night 🤞

I’ve also found that the longest stretches of sleep come when she’s fallen asleep in our arms and been transferred to the bassinet asleep/very sleepy. When we’ve transferred her too quickly and before she’s fallen asleep those naps are usually shorter

Normal newborn naps are 20-120 min long so short naps are okay although they are frustrating. Try to not stress out too much about it, things will get better with time. Is it possible she’s uncomfortable with gas or reflux is why she doesn’t want to sleep?

totally agree, we were trying to”awake but drowsy” and have given up, she has to be totally asleep to be set down.
if it was just a short nap here and there it wouldn’t bother me- it’s that this is the only way she sleeps now and it’s pretty tough to sleep when the baby sleeps (much less eat etc) in 15-30 minute intervals.
We did talk to her pediatrician and they suggested cutting dairy but that hasn’t made any changes

I know it can be frustrating. My first baby was like that. Honestly nothing I did helped. Our job is to give them a good environment for sleep and their job is to go to sleep. With time my son started sleeping more. They go through so many changes in their little brains in the first few months so sleep isn’t always one of their favorite things. If she takes a 20-30 min nap and you can’t get her back to sleep after 10-15 min of trying just get her up it’s completely normal and healthy to have short naps. My son was that way and now he’s an amazing sleeper for bedtime and naps and he’s 19 months old. He didn’t nap great or sleep through the night till he was 10 months old honestly but ever since then he rarely gives us a hard time. He goes to sleep on his own everytime he’s laid down and sleeps 8pm-7am every night naps for 1.5-2.5 hours every day so maybe if it’s rough now means she will be a great sleeper in the future? I know it’s hard but you’re doing everything right

It is too early to “sleep train” but by keeping a bedtime routine and sticking to it for naps and bed she will eventually catch on and get used to it and say okay it’s time to sleep. I recommend looking into “taking cara babies” we used it for my son and using it again for my daughter this time around she has a lot of helpful tips for baby sleep
