High temperatures
At what point do you contact out of hours or A&E?
Our toddler spiked a temperature and has been given ibuprofen (3.5hours ago) and calpol (30-40mins) ago and it’s not coming down. He’s not as unsettled, he’s giggling now and then while watching TV in our bed, he’s drinking plenty of fluids and hasn’t any other symptoms. I’m sick and my fever only lasted the day, aches and pains started today and a cough but with paracetamol I’m able to get on with things so I assume he’s got what I have. I checked the NHS website and it says to contact GP or other if it’s been more than a few days or he’s stiff etc and he’s none of those things.

I had this just over a week ago and then LO got it too… we had a drs appointment but dr said if I continue alternating meds and it doesn’t bring his temp down, then to come back in. So if you find it’s not working after a few more doses then I’d contact 111 or GP
We usually wait 3 days and if it doesn't come down, while alternating ibu and para as per the prescriptions on the box, then we see a doctor. Also, it depends on the height of the temperature and the child's behaviours. If they are still playing and seem to be happy then there's no need to see a doc. If they have a high fever like 39plus, just lay in bed and you can't get the temp down then your best bet is indeed to call NHS 111. They are able to advice and reserve a time for you to be seen by a doctor at one of the walk in centres or GPs in your area. AE is only for emergencies and most often the waiting times are terrible. An appointment with your own GP is always best for these things.
