There are different types of iron tablets- you could ask to try another one.

I was prescribed the tablets but couldn’t get on with them so instead bought floradix (was told by consultant that it’s the best one for liquid iron) and take a shot of that and then orange juice straight after. Orange juice helps with taste of it but also helps your body’s absorb the iron apparently!

I use spatone in liquid form - you should be able to get on Amazon or from Boots if you're based in Eire. They have a version that has extra vitamin C added in to help aid absorption.
I usually take with food - up until 2 weeks ago (I'm 23 weeks) I was still getting morning sickness, so with just taking with afternoon or even meals and they worked really well x

Can you take it with juice or milk?

I take mine just before I have breakfast, wash it down with a glass of orange juice, the first day I took it, it made me feel awful but that was with just a glass of water and after my breakfast!

Take it with something high in vit c like fresh orange juice. It helps the iron to absorb more. No reason to take it on an empty stomach

I had to start taking iron pills as well- have you tried taking the slow release kind? Those don’t seem to bother me compared to regular iron supplements

I normally take mine in the middle of the night when I wake up for the bathroom, if I take it at 2/3/4am I find by the time I wake up the side effects are subsiding and I can get on with the day, I also take with orange juice to help it absorb and take floradix liquid iron during the day 30 minutes before meals too

my GP & midwife said not to have tea, coffee or milk an hour either side of taking the iron x

Thank you all so much - also on omperezol and can’t take it within 4 hours of taking iron but also should be taking before eating 😂😵‍💫 medical maths !!!

You're supposed to avoid milk with some other medications too. Can reduce effectiveness

Also found these are good, more gentle when taken on an empty stomach than the ones prescribed so I combined taking one of these in the middle of the night and then floradix in the day 30 min before meals
