CROTCHET Where to begin??

Hi All😚 I really want to start crotcheting while I wait for my little one to arrive, hopefully make him a blanket before he’s actually born but I have no idea where to start as i’ve never done it before. Would you recommend Youtube videos and buying the wool and tools myself individually or are there any good beginner crotchet kits to start with?😅 Thank you in advance🥰🥰

Hi, crochet addict here 😅

I’d 100% recommend YouTube! That’s how I learnt. When I first started, I used YouTube and slowed the speed of the video down so I could follow along easier. Bella Coco’s videos are amazing, I’ll link it to you below

But to start, I’d just buy some cheap yarn and a couple of different sized hooks to begin with, so that way you can have a practice at just making a few squares/rectangles to get the hang of the actual stitches and making them neat before jumping head first into a project 😊

Great ok, I was thinking it even seems a bit cheaper in the long run. Some crotcheting kits are £25-£35 when if I just took the time and research I could just purchase them separately myself x

crochet kits are great if you can read the patterns. When I first started I had noooo idea what ‘tr bl dc’ meant, and the pictures didn’t help me personally as they’re just 2D sketches. I found watching videos to see exactly what movements I needed to do and where to actually put the hook into ect

Also, have a look on Facebook marketplace. I often see people giving away yarn for free or very cheap!

Thank you, A recommended beginner video was going to be my next question. I have no idea how to read patterns yet so i think youtube will be my best bet🥰

I think has given you some great advise. Bellacoco videos are amazing. X

YouTube is amazing! I used it during lockdown to teach myself and you can slow the videos down too if they are too fast

I went to little classes to learn but the lady who did them also does tutorials on YouTube and she's fab! Her page is Freddie Loves Crochet.xx

Second all the advice above. I just bought a crochet hook kit off amazon and some pound land yarn to start with rather than a kit. X

Ooo could you link what you brought off Amazon?

That’s so precious😩 Something that can be a proper keepsake, I went into The Works and got some yarn, a hook set and some Darning needles from Hobbycraft so my journey begins today!
