Hi everyone,
My little one is 4.5 weeks old, EBF and we’re suspecting CMPA.
I just wondered what you all thought re his symptoms - does it sound like cmpa to you? My first born didn’t have anything like this so I’m doubting it all.
I’ll go dairy free, but for those who’ve trodden the path before me, how long did it take to see a difference? Desperate to see him happier, feel so guilty that my milk is causing him pain.
Did anyone give probiotics to help the gut to heal?
Symptoms:
- really windy
- generally very unsettled and grumpy when awake
- latches on and off, arches back, cries. Takes a long time to get a feed done!
- general red tone to skin, though not rashy in terms of feel
- mostly very wet and explosive nappies. Yellow to start with, but now going green
Thanks so much for any advice and experience
Sally

You can try going off dairy. For my daughter she was just very very cranky and crying constantly. She didn’t have any other symptoms so I just started eating less dairy and we switched to a goat milk formula to see if that would help her and it did. We think she just has a sensitivity since we can do some dairy and goat milk so you could try that just to see how things work and see if things get better or go dairy free for a couple weeks and see how baby is. And then maybe add something back just to see how it’ll affect baby. For us I can’t drink straight up milk or she’ll be hell the next day. But if I have cheese or some things that have dairy it’s fine

My baby has recently been diagnosed with CMPA at 4 months old and she’s breastfed. Her symptoms are; reflux, very windy and uncomfortable with her stomach (mostly during the early hours of the morning), eczema flare ups and occasionally hives, mucous in her nappy, explosive nappies, sneezing and nasal congestion.
I cut out milk and soya (soya is very similar to milk apparently so very common for little ones to have allergies to both these) and noticed an improvement on her symptoms within a day or so, it took a lot longer for some of the other symptoms to settle and she still has mucousy nappies and sneezes a lot and bad reflux but she’s generally more comfortable.
We had to push for a dietician referral at our doctors as they kept telling us it’s normal and just reflux related so do your research and remember you know your baby better than anyone.

Also, If you’re going to cut out milk and soya make sure you’re checking labels and unfortunately soya seems to be in lots of products and I didn’t know this at first! They also recommend if you’re breastfeeding to take a calcium supplement daily.

Thanks so much @ What did the dietician do, just so I know what to ask for at the gp? Did you notice your baby was happier after you cut dairy and soy? That’s the bit that really hurts my heart right now, he’s miserable!!!

we were referred to an unsettled babies clinic which is something they do within the area that I live and we told them all the symptoms and they referred us to the dietician but your GP can do it.
I cut out dairy and soy in January and only had the dietitian appointment a couple of weeks ago. All the dietician said was to reintroduce some milk to see if she has a reaction and advised us to wean early. They are then going to give us a phone call in a few weeks to see how we’re getting on.
I guess there would be no harm in you cutting out dairy and soy for a few weeks and if his symptoms improve then it almost confirms it for you!
My baby was more settled after cutting it out - but she was generally uncomfortable in her sleep with lots of gas and making grunting noises but that has completely gone now and she’s sleeping so much better.

Thank you all! Determined to give it my best shot to help him get better, I’ve bought kendamil probiotics so will try them too.
Re mucus nappies, how do you know for sure? I’ll attach a gross video, I assume the stingy bits are mucus?
Should I ask gp to check for infection too?
Thanks so much
