Baby flutters?

I’m 17 weeks and 4 days and everyone keeps telling me I should feel baby and every time I say I can’t feel nothing they seem really concerned and ask to check baby’s heartbeat so now I’m just stressed. I know they say it’s like butterfly flutters but I can’t figure out how that’s supposed to feel

Don't get worried. It's common with a first pregnancy to not feel anything until WK24. I'd didn't start feeling my wee one properly until week 21 x

Also, it doesn't feel like butterfly flutters or bubbles to me, which is what everyone kept saying

If first pregnancy i didn't feel any flutter until around 22-24 weeks. Then it was like 26wks that i coulf physically see them.

girl i didn’t feel anything till around 20-21 weeks and even then the “kicks” would b hard to notice at times if i wasn’t extremely focused on them. don’t let them scare you, your baby is perfect, alive & healthy as ever. 🤍

I didn't feel anything until around 19/20 weeks and even then I just thought it was gas popping 😅 I have an anterior placenta. Every baby is different. I sometimes still don't feel him move much some days for days at a time but then he will make up for it over the next few days 😅 I used to get worried about it too, but my mum is always reassuring me that he's just comfy aha

19 weeks and have only felt a couple times ! Once being yday while I was being waxed down there! Don’t worry I’ve heard it completely normal to not feel anything yet! Xx

I didn’t feel anythign till maybe 20-22 weeks, it’s so hard not to worry or to be impatient like I was feeling but they will come and then they won’t stop haha!

Avatar

To me it was later until I was like, well that's definitely her... And I'd say at the beginning it felt more like having gas. So if I didn't trump shortly after I was like hmm.... That could be her then, haha.

They'll come and you'll notice it more. Don't worry yourself too much this early.

And I've always said... getting checked ain't a bad thing, 1. If anything they will notice things earlier, 2. You get to hear the heartbeat which is amazing! Not many mummas get extra checks so they just go through the whole thing with the regular checks. 💕

its normal to not feel anything until 23-24 weeks. If you hit 24 weeks and havent felt any movement at all, then it would be time to get a little concerned but you have plenty of time before that 😊

I didn't feel anything until about 22 weeks. I remember being so weirded out when I got the anatomy scan done at 19 weeks and could see my daughter throwing a dance party in there, but couldn't actually feel any of it. 😅

I did not feel my baby until about 22 weeks or later. I was told I had an anterior placenta initially but was later told that was incorrect and that I have a posterior placenta. With a posterior placenta it still took a while for me to feel baby; I’m a first time mom. The people who are telling you that you should feel your baby at this point are incorrect. Some people feel their babies sooner and for others baby’s movements aren’t felt until later. Completely normal.

I didn't feel anything until I was around 23 weeks, I kept thinking the same as you due to people saying I should feel something but it can be easy to miss when they're still so small. Have you ever gone over a humpback bridge? That's how I was able to describe the feeling when I first started feeling my little one move 😂

Avatar

Ah try not to worry, it’s still early and hard to tell with your first what’s actually going on.
You could try eating/ drinking then just laying down somewhere quiet and seeing if you can feel anything. That worked for me sometimes but even if that doesn’t work I still wouldn’t worry at this stage x

Avatar

Don't worry about it, I felt nothing with my son until 20 weeks and even then was very subtle (would only notice if I was still in bed). Then by week 28 he started kicking my ribs so hard I was in pain 😅

Avatar

A mum on another group I'm in described at a goldfish in a bag, it kind of feels like that

Avatar

@Lisa I totally get that description lol.

This is my first pregnancy and people kept asking all the time around the 20 week mark I I felt him move..and I still hadn't felt anything...and yeah, it was making me concerned and also a little sad because I really wanted to feel him! But I think around 24ish weeks I started feeling little movements (it felt like small little muscle spasms to me)...but I only started recognizing that feeling because I happened to feel that little spasm feeling during an ultrasound specifically when he moved on scree lm as well...so I was like OOHHH that's the feeling!? Haha
But don't worry, you will get to a point where you feel him all the time and it's so AMAZING and MAGICAL. Im 34 weeks now and i feel his whole body move around 💕 Just remember to enjoy the season you're in currently, as all of this will soon pass and next thing you know it they'll be born and become their own person and be independent from you. So just enjoy every moment, have faith and trust God 🙏❤️

With my first baby I didn't feel her move till 20-22 weeks with posterior placenta
With my second I felt him around 19 weeks I think and I had an anterior placenta

It's completely normal to not feel baby yet, everyone is different and every baby is different

Avatar

Please don’t stress over it. I did and then came to find out my placenta was in front so I couldn’t feel her until she was a lot bigger. No worries, once you start feeling those strong kicks in your ribs much later on, you’ll remember these few weeks and laugh 😂

Avatar

Don’t stress about it yet. I felt mine move pretty early but the movements were so subtle that you could easily miss them until at least 21 weeks, and even then it wasn’t consistent. I’d have days with lots of kicks and days with absolutely nothing.

Even when I went for my 20 week scan baby was moving around SO MUCH on the screen and I didn’t feel a thing while that was happening!

Avatar

it’s really tricky cause the internet says 16 - 24 weeks and I just don’t feel anything

Avatar

it’s likely that your baby is just fine. But if you’re really worried could you get a private scan? Pregnancy can be an anxious time so if that does ease your mind it might be worth it.
