Calpol/nurofen

My Lo is teething atm with some of her back teeth, she’s fine during the day but on a night she is inconsolable like literally put her back to sleep and then 2 mins later she’s back up. We try to last out as long as possible so sometimes we’re back and forth for hours. This is when we decide to give her medicine and she usually ends up sleeping through after this, we most of the time give her nurofen as calpol sometimes doesn’t help when she is teething. Everytime I do it I feel like I’m drugging her and I’ll get this massive wave of guilt but surely if she wasn’t in pain and just crying for comfort the medicine wouldn’t do anything? Or am I wrong? It feels so wrong giving her medicine every night which I feel ridiculous for even saying if she needs it she needs it, but I can’t help thinking what if she doesn’t need it! 😭

Nurofen works better for teething as it’s ibuprofen so it’s inflammatory (if that makes sense) I tend to do bonjela and use nurofen as a last resort. I get how you’re feeling, as I’ve felt the same before but I just tend to remind myself it’s the same as when we have pain we take meds to help ease the pain x

You’re not drugging her - you’re helping alleviate her pain and making her feel better. My LO struggles with teeth worse at night too

I would feel bad not giving a baby medication and leave them in pain. You're doing the right thing:)

Same! I always end up feeling guilty when using Nurofen. It s so hard to know sometimes, especially when it s the middle of the night and you re tired as well.

I really don't understand why you would feel guilty giving your baby pain relief if they're suffering with pain? I'd feel more guilty leaving them in pain.

Thanks guys feel less worried giving her it now! Swear I get in my head about everything!!

@Sarah haha I think I’d feel just as guilty not giving her it aswell! I think it’s because she doesn’t really need it during the day I get in my head that she might just want a cuddle on a night and that the ibrufen is kind of knocking her out and making it easier for me and my partner!!

I know this post is really old but I’m so glad I saw it, I feel the exact same way giving the medicine! Huge overthinker here 🙊
