Wild camping with baby (in Scotland!)

Hello! Has anyone wild camped with their baby before (or semi wild camped?). We're planning some trips this summer (6-9m) and are unsure about what to out the baby in for sleeping. We're between travel cot or forking out for his own sleeping bag but they are so pricey! Also, if not sleeping bag, what do they wear when it can get to 5 degrees?

Having our first baby in the summer and looking forward to hearing the answer to this one! Good luck!!

There's an Arc 2 travel cot that's designed for camping.

I'm thinking a foam mat and a baby sleeping bag should be fine for the summer

@Jenni a camping sleeping bag or the one used indoors?

Indoor one with layers underneath. Not taken my baby yet but will follow the safer sleep advice

i havent personally but would love too soon. have a look at ramble.family on instagram, they have loads of tips and info on this xx

@Jenni oohh interesting. I feel he'd still be cold but perhaps not. Will check the chart again

We camped with our baby when he was 8 months but it was summertime. We coslept and kept him in a baby sleeping bag. We then tried to go camping with him when he was 1 1/2 and it was terrible. With a baby is definitely easier

Sorry to hear it was terrible when he was older. We cosleep at home too so he'd love that. What brand sleeping bag did you use? Or was it just a normal indoor one? We're planning summertime too but sometimes it gets so cold at night...

I’ve got one of the Morrison outdoor sleeping bags (synthetic that goes down to 5 degrees) as we do a lot of camping/festivals. I got mine on offer but you do have to pay taxes and postage from the US which was about £15. Worth it though as it’s safe for sleeping with a very small neck! I don’t usually co sleep so use a pop up travel cot.

Hi Rosey, we're considering that one but it's pricey and we aren't sure the baby would love camping 😅 If you've used it enough and your babes are now older, would you consider selling it? I've been trying to get my hand on a secondhand one but they are like gold dust

I wild camped at Red Tarn when my little lad was about 8-9 months old. We took a heavy tog sleep suit for him & he slept in the pillow section of my sleeping bag. With my camp matt & his changing matt for little extra support. *some folks will disagree with me, that's fine, I was 6 weeks old for my first ever wild camp and did it all my life growing and sure I slept in way worse conditions in the early 90s 😅

I'm looking for the same answer! 3yo and a 7 month old, we have a trailer camper so no room for a travel cot! Unsure what to use!

We ended buying the morrisons sleeping bag as they had a big sale and we had a code for a further 10% off and will probably sell second hand for similar price. Because it's safe and warm, we will just have them in between us on a three person mat (no ridges). Did look at the Amazon one someone posted above and considered it but would take a bit too much space in the tent unfortunately but might consider it after the first trial
