Potty training hell

We're on day 2 of potty training and I just need some reassurance 🤦🏻‍♀️ We tried potty training last summer as she showed many of the signs but it was clear she wasn't ready so we waited to try again. She now holds her wee and poo for a long time, can ask for the potty/toilet and is showing a genuine interest and as I am 5 months pregnant it seemed like a good time to try again. Day 1 - no pants, full commando waist down. I started the day by explaining that we were not going to have nappies anymore and she helped me put them away. Lots of praise. I then showed her the potty/toilet again and showed her stickers and rewards she will get every time she does a wee or po on the potty and she was really enthusiastic. She kept sitting on it and then coming to tell me she had. However, she soon lost interest and then had an accident. I put her on the potty said that was ok and reminded her. Accident no. 2 she stopped herself weeing and finished weeing on potty so I was like she does have some control and I gave her a big reward for finishing on the potty. By accident number 3 she was getting angry with having to think about potty which led to a tantrum and then an explosion of poo outside. I took her and bathed her and put her in the nighttime pants we got her so they still look and feel different... But I feel like I'm doing it wrong I watched her all day and there were no signs she needed a wee at all. Day 2 - I wanted to try her in knickers to see whether she would communicate better if her pants were slowly getting wet and again in the morning she was great - told me straight away she had done a wee in her pants. Sat on the potty cleaned her up but more accidents today than yesterday. She held it in more when she was bare bummed. I knew potty training would be hard but Im losing the faith. I'm determined to give it at least a week but reassurance from mum's going through the same or who have gone through it would really be appreciated. Thanks

It’s awful isn’t it?! We started yesterday afternoon and so far we’ve only had accidents. She’s not done anything on the potty at all despite sitting on it for a decent period of time. We’re tempted to throw the towel in but then I feel like we need to give it a bit longer before we do. Part of me just thinks she’s not ready but then I really want her to do a little wee in the potty so she knows what to do! It’s so hard… I knew it would be but man!

We tried with our little girl yesterday and she was happy to sit on the potty playing games but then got up and walked away to do a wee, I tried to put her on the potty whilst she was still weeing but she absolutely refused and hysterically cried 🙈 and then once I'd cleaned her she then went and sat back on the potty to play games 🤷‍♀️ so it's like she's happy to sit on the potty but not to actually do a wee in it...found it quite stressful for her so I didn't start again today, I'm not sure if she's ready just yet

I’m several weeks in but not turning back! Have some days now no accidents at all and others several for different reasons! She showed signs last summer but had my LO in August so we got side tracked… then she started off great but wasn’t consistent and always had loads of accidents at nursery as for now it’s 1/2 but poo is the tricky thing for us she’s done them on the potty and toilet but out at soft play or something it’s almost impossible with my 7 month old 🙈

Solidarity with all of you. I now feel like a fool for being so stress-free about it… before we actually started this weekend. It’s been an absolutely nightmare. Prior to starting, my daughter was excited and sat on the potty plenty of times - happy about it! Once we actually started training it’s been a completely different story. She is screaming the house down pretty much hyperventilating and refuses to go near any of the three potties we have. Naked first day and held her pee in for over 6+ hours and would wait to go in her nappy at nap and night time. She cried and begged us to put nappies on her and even tried several times herself. Day one was an epic disaster. Day 2 we let her put trousers on (even though she clearly didn’t pass the first phase from the Oh Crap book we are following) and she pretty much had 4 accidents throughout the day and I had to physically hold her down to finish her pees in the potty. I can only laugh bc of how horribly it’s going 🤷‍♀️

She’s doing great! We started in early Feb and my girl was having accidents for about 2 weeks but it got less and less and now tells us when she wants a wee bit she’s stopped telling us that she wants a poo which is annoying. She is almost always dry when she has a nap and is dry at least 50% of nights although we won’t be taking nappies off at those times for a while yet.

We are just getting to the other side of it. I totally feel your pain- the first 2 days were the worst! The best thing I was told is that getting wees and poos in the potty to start with is all about coincidence. Make a huge fuss, give stickers, give treats. Then just keep reminding them that wee goes in the potty. I explained that juice turns to wee in your tummy and you put wee in the potty so he’s keen to sit on the potty after having a drink. It’s a lot of reminding him to sit and encouraging him and distracting him with a fave book on the potty- he isn’t telling us he needs it yet. Give it a few more days and I’m sure it will feel a little easier

Days 2 & 3 were the worst for us. Knickers confused her more because of the feeling of having something there she just wee'd through them! Make sure your LOs can pull there trousers and pants down them self's - makes it alot easier. We did it 6 months ago and she didn't know how to do that and would just sit and wee through them 😆🙈 Try and push through. We said we would give it a week and if she's not getting it we would go back but by the end of day 3 it just clicked! It's hard - very hard there was alot of tears and stress but you got this! 🙌

I started about 3 weeks ago. Potty at home I’d say we have that down now … potty outside of the house not so much. People told me it would only take a week lol I’m a month in and still going 🤣 it’s … a lot
