My boy has had a runny nose and abit of a cold since last Tuesday (a week ago) but this morning he woke up with a chesty cough. Then this evening he developed a temp of around 38.2 and felt quite hot on his stomach and back. I have given him nurofen which brought it down to 37.6 but he still feels quite hot. Is there anything I can do to help??
How long do you give it before I should take him in to the GP to get checked?? He’s only had a cough for 24 hours (22:40 he’s now asleep but he usually wakes up several times in the night)
I’ve put this vid on as it’s the only one I could get but some of his others are a lot chestier
What should I look out for?? First time mum and probably over worrying but I feel so helpless and just hate seeing him poorly 💔

Aww - it sounds like he’s saying “mamaaaa” in the beginning 🥺 it’s so hard isn’t it. My LB is exactly the same atm. He had a temp of 40.4’c for 4 days. They wouldn’t give him antibiotics because apparently it’s resistant to it & they said “fevers are healthy, it means his immune system is working” and just said to keep up with fluids and Nurofen. He’s now on day 9 of the cough but it is finally tapering a little. Very chesty still at times though and it’s almost like he chokes on it.
Our out of hours doctor said to just keep an eye on the chest and if the ribs are sucking in at each breath or if he begins to sound wheezy, short of breath or breathing fast (60+ breaths per minute) then to go straight to a&e. We used menthol & eucalyptus in a humidifier overnight and propped up his mattress to ease the cough overnight and then fluids and meds during the day Xxx

I’d honestly book an appointment tomorrow regardless and demand to be seen. That way at least you’ll be hearing it from the doctor and your mind will be more at ease & you can ask for advice etc. xxx

I’ve been trying to get him to say it for ages so whenever he cries it always sounds like he is 😩!! This info is actually really helpful thanks so much!!! I’ll keep my eye on his breathing etc. if I get worried I’ll probably speak to 111 to get their advice as the GP always just texts us nowadays we never actually get to go in🙃!!! But thank you again I’ll keep my eye on him. Hope your little one gets better soon xxx

oh that’s so sweet but I can imagine how it tugs on your heartstrings too. It’s so hard to see them poorly isn’t it?!😩
Ahh I don’t blame you, I called 111 to see an out of hours because my regular GP said it wasn’t “urgent enough” and said to wait until they’d closed to call 111 so that 111 didn’t refer him back to them 🙄 NHS love passing the buck atm 🙄
Hopefully he kicks it asap & starts to feel better soon🤎

Hi my son has just come out of hospital after having bronchiolitis. He ended up on oxygen and a feeding tube for milk, fluid and antibiotics.
He woke up and his breath on was very rapid and short. He didn’t have a temperature but I could tell he wasn’t himself so called 111 and they sent an ambulance out.
Use your mummy intuition! If you think he isn’t himself and your worried call the drs or 111 anytime. Never question yourself. We know our babies more than anyone else.
Listening to your video now I would 100% call the drs or 111 that’s what they are there for. To make sure our little ones are ok. I would get his chest listened to. Good luck xx

My 7mo has just been discharged from hospital having been in overnight with bronchiolitis. We phoned 111 and they sent us to A&E. I would say she didn't sound as chesty as your son and we were taken really seriously and no one questioned why we were there - they'd always rather you go in, especially with a baby 💙 It had started to affect her feeding which can obviously escalate, fortunately we avoided the feeding tube but I think things can change quickly x

thank you so much this information is so helpful!! I spoke to 111 and they told me to just give paracetamol but I’ve since had a text to say the clinical team have reviewed and they want to call me so hopefully hear back soon. Hope it’s not the start of something serious I feel so helpless! Hopefully it’s just a cough but he does sound really chesty xx

Update - this is my boys cough now. He’s only coughing about every 10 mins but when he does it’s quite heavy. Still waiting for doctor at 111 to call back xx

oh bless him. He sounds exactly like Arlo does! Hopefully 111 call you back asap but you can call them if you think it’s getting worse and just explain you called earlier…they can access his notes from then x
