Glucose test

Just wanted to share my experience with the glucose test. I’m 28 weeks and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. The drink does have a little bit of a think consistency and it very sweet but it was fine. The two hour wait was okay I did feel a little bit sick and faint but I just kept sipping on a bottle of cold water and tried to keep my mind busy. I was allowed to walk up and down the waiting room and that really helped me feel better and it made time go a lot quicker

How did you feel for the rest of the day? Mine is tomorrow and I’m dreading it, hate feeling dizzy and sick 🙈

Same here! it wasn’t bad at all! Even feeling a bit faint, and I had a headache, was nothing really! I felt ok to even drive afterwards. As for the rest of the day I felt tired but again mildly so.

I would just suggest to take something to eat with you to have after the test is complete and take as long as you need

I had mine this morning, felt a little sicky and faint but nothing too bad! Feel very tired now though!

Me too! I was dreading it after reading the stories on here but the drink barely tasted of anything to me. I had no side effects or symptoms whatsoever and they let me walk around the hospital grounds between blood tests - it was absolutely fine!

I was allowed to go home in between my 2 blood tests and the drink just taste like flat lemonade and it was absolutely fine x

Had mine this morning - drink was fine - like an undiluted cordial 🤣 no side effects either but my hospital was more strict. I had to stay sat down for the entire 2 hours in the waiting room and would have to tell the reception if I had go on a walk to the toilet etc. I just sat there reading for 2 hours though so didn’t bother me 😂

I had mine I didn’t feel sick or dizzy I was bracing myself for it but I felt fine just insanely hungry all day after I could not stop eating

Mine is tomorrow and I’m so nervous. Can you drink water before the test & eat once the test is done?

Avatar

it looks like it’s different for each NHS trust as my experience was very different to other people’s! But for mine I could drink water the whole time, before and during! And could eat straight after the 2 hours had passed and had my second blood tests x

you can drink plain water up until the test ask if you can drink it during some let you some don’t, I then had finger pricked and vein blood draw then drank the drink within 5 minutes then I had to sit in the waiting room for two hours could only move to go to the toilet, after that they drew blood from the vein again and told me to go treat myself to a good breakfast and eat and drink as normal x

We’re you also allowed to take your pregnancy vitamins/ medications? Forgot to ask!

Glad it’s over. Wasn’t as bad as I thought. Just hate needles xx

I took my vitamins as normal they only asked if I stopped eating before 10pm the night before and made sure I only had water
