Baby had a bad reaction to my milk so have been advised to go dairy free, how long until my milk is safe?

8- 24 hours .. not worth starting formula. Feed through anyway. And don’t replace with soy as the protein is very similar.

It can take up to 21 days for dairy to
totally leave your system.

We continued to breastfeed but made sure it was cut totally out of my diet. It can then take another 2 weeks for it to be out of babies system. We were told to give it 6 weeks before we could do a proper assessment of how she was as it takes a while.

So unless baby is having a severe reaction I would continue to feed with approval from midwife or doctor. If you want to switch to formula to be on the safe side that’s also absolutely fine but make sure you have medical guidance.

this has been disproven with new research. Breastmilk is made from the blood and new milk is made continuously. It can take up to six weeks for the babies guy to heal depending on the damage but the milk is dairy free after 24 hours.

Do you have a link to the new research? Haven’t heard that before so would be good! We were told it took ages so that’s definitely a positive. And honestly we didn’t notice a difference until 6 weeks onwards anyway

8 hours ish for it to leave your milk. But the effects on the gut CAN take 2-3 weeks to clear up.
