After lots of messages and some not very nice ones I just want to put it out there that i didn’t abandon my son and leave him to get as ill as he did on purpose!
This is quite a long post (sorry) but I wanted to put it out there to what truly happened every step of the way.
On the 20th March we noticed Milo starting to become unwell with a cold, we didn’t think anything of it because he’d just started nursery and we was warned that the first few weeks-months comes with a lot of illness as their little body’s adjust to all the new bacteria however overtime he got a little worse each day developing more and more symptoms of what we believed to be a normal cold.
On the 29th of March Milo woke up for the day with bright red rings around his eyes, something neither me or his dad had seen before and of course it’d bank holiday weekend so no where was open for us to contact and it seemed silly to call 111 over a cold, right? So me being me I turn to the internet and a few different groups to try finding out what the red circles mean. Just a cold? Hay fever? eczema? Conjunctivitis without the gunk (which I didn’t even know was a thing!)? We made the choice to wait, watch and see over the bank holiday weekend because his behaviour was just how you’d expect a run down baby to be and he was still eating/drinking perfectly fine.
Tuesday 2nd April the GP finally opened back up so I called first thing in the morning and Milo was seen at 12pm. His doctor was great, very patient with him being quite irritable. He checked his temperature which was normal, his heart rate and breathing rate which was also both normal before looking down his throat when he immediately said he has tonsillitis. He then proceeded to tell me that yes he did have just a cold but his little body was struggling to fight it leading it to become a secondary bacterial infection, conjunctivitis & tonsillitis. He then prescribed antibiotics eye drops alongside a cream for the redness around his eyes and oral antibiotic for his tonsillitis which I went and picked up straight away and gave him as soon as we got home.
45 minutes after having the first lot of antibiotics (approximately 1:45pm) everything started going downhill and fast! He has the biggest wetted nappy explosion I had ever seen but antibiotics do upset your stomach so was it normal? We just went with it after being told the antibiotics would cause some sickness and diarrhoea . Then I made his lunch at 2pm and refused to eat so I offered milk instead however within 15 minutes that was all over my living room. Try again later we thought. Fast forward to tea time, my husband had left for work and it’s just me and Milo. I offered food and he was not interested so I offered milk again but that also didn’t stay down longer than 15 minutes so I called 111. Between him having his first lot of antibiotics at 1pm to 7pm when I decided enough was enough and called 111 Milo had 6 explosive nappies, and had to been sick to many times to count so we was sent to an out of hours peads doctor who told us he believed Milo to have a penicillin allergy, changed his antibiotics and told us to keep giving him 3oz of water every 30minutes to keep him hydrated. The strange part was he wasn’t sure why he’d been put on antibiotics in the first place and said he wouldn’t of prescribed them himself if he was Milo’s gp but he’ll go with what a doctor who knows him better has chosen to do.
Wednesday 3rd April, I got Milo up and he seemed a lot better, he still wouldn’t eat food but he was drinking his milk only bringing a small amount up so we went to town brought some formula (as he’s been on cows milk for a month but because he wasn’t eating I was worried about nutrition) and went to pick his new antibiotics up. I gave him the first lot of his new antibiotics at 12pm and they seemed so much better but it didn’t last long. 2pm hit I changed his nappy and put Milo down for a nap thinking we’d found the problem and I could breathe. Then I suddenly heard screaming, I go running up stairs and my god I’ve never seen anything like it his bed was absolutely covered in sh*t and his whole room was covered in sick and it was none stop flowing out of him for a good 5 minutes. I called 111 again for a doctors to tell me it’s fine, normal and to just keep giving him fluids. Who am I to go against a doctor I’m no medical professional so again I just went with it. Thought out that afternoon it was a repeat of none stop sick and diarrhoea I’ve honestly seen nothing like it but no medical professional seemed to want to help. To put it into words how bad it actually was he was pooing literally water every 30 minutes and being sick within 10 minutes of any form of liquid touching his mouth.
Thursday 4th April. I decided enough was enough and I wasn’t giving him the antibiotics which was clearly making him so ill, it was a rough morning with him continuing with the sickness and diarrhoea and after 1 hour of being awake I had to bath him because of how much he’d been sick down himself. In the bath he literally fell asleep while sat up, very not normal but he’s poorly so I rushed getting him out of the bath so I could put him bed (I know I like to sleep when I’m poorly so didn’t think much of it) he was also trying to drink the bath water like a dog because of how thirsty he was even though I had literally just given him an 8oz cup of water he gulped down. Fast forward a few hours Milo’s wakes up for some milk which I thought was a good sign until he immediately fell back sleep. 3:30pm hit and I started to feel something wasn’t right, he’d only been awake for an hour from when he woke up at 9:45 so I called his gp for an urgent appointment however they didn’t seem very urgent about it and I didn’t get a call back until 4:20pm. His gp agreed that it wasn’t normal how much he was sleeping and how he fell asleep while sat up in the bath so referred us to ane. my husband called his boss to say he wasn’t goin into work and we headed straight to ane the referral allowed us to jump the queue of the 60 people that was already there waiting to be seen to be seen straight away. They did his sats which all came back fine and they tried to send us home but I refused to leave the room because I know my baby and something really wasn’t right and a different nurse came and took his blood sugar levels which was very low. They put us into a different room and told us we had to force him to eat a yogurt, that didn’t go very well he screamed, screamed, fell sleep and screamed then eventually decided he wanted to give it a try and ate pretty much a whole pot but it came out the bottom end as fast as it went in the top! Atleast he finally wasn’t being sick though! The nurses kept bringing us yogurts to try getting down him but out of the idk how many yogurts they gave us he was only willing to eat about 1 n half of them but we finally managed to get some formula down him aswell. His blood sugar levels was tests so many times and it was slowly creeping back up, god we could tell! He went from a very sleepy flop to talking, laughing, playing. After I think it was about 7 hours of getting him to eat yogurts and drink formula pretty much none stop we finally got to see a doctor who told me I made the right decision to stop his antibiotics because if I didn’t everything we was chucking at him while trying to get his blood sugar levels up would’ve just kept come up and ending up with him being admitted and having all sorts of medication pumped into him. The doctor reexamined him and said his throat was that swollen its very close to being closed of but were in a horrible loop where we can’t give him antibiotics because of how ill they’re making him but he can’t get food down because he needs antibiotics to sort his throat out fast. We was discharged around midnight with some throat spray to try bring the swelling down and to numb his throat before eating incase he gags on anything in hope that’ll help with him not being able to take antibiotics.

Friday 5th April . He managed to eat porridge for his breakfast 🎉 then he had formula pretty much straight after aswell and we only had a tiny bit of sick but that was because he was coughing quite hard. He than ate almost a whole 6month plus puddling jar for his dinner, followed by formula and no sick! Then we made the decision to let him go to nursery for a few hours (the doctor said it was fine and probably would be good for him as long as he was eating and the nursery was willing to watch out for signs of low blood sugar) he went to nursery it took us an hour to explain everything that had happened but they was more than happy for him to be there and turns out one of the staff members on the baby room struggle with low blood sugar so she knew what to look out for. While at nursery he demolished a banana, 2 bottles of formula and a yogurt with no sick 🎉 then came home and had another bottle of formula without any sick and proceeded to do his first poo of the day (at 6pm!)

followed by 2 more before going bed at 8:30.
I honestly cannot believe how much a difference it’s made him actually being able to eat and drink! I’m currently celebrating every time he eats or drinks without shitting himself or being sick 🤣
A few points I’d like to put out there after some of the messages n comments I’ve received.
⁃ I didn’t wait for him to get this ill I tried getting help but I just wasn’t getting it
⁃ Yes I didn’t take him ane straight away on Thursday but I’m glad I waited an hour for his gp to call back because it meant him being seen a lot quicker than if I was to of taken him straight to ane
⁃ Yes I personally chose to stop his antibiotic without medical advise because I knew that was what was making him so poorly and no one would listen

⁃ Yes I sent him to nursery when he’s been unwell for days but he isn’t contagious, he needed a break from us as much as we needed a break, he enjoyed being at nursery, he came home a lot happier than wen we dropped him off and I trust the staff there to do what’s best by my child after having everything explained to them.
⁃ Yes maybe I could’ve done things differently but while everything was happening I was in a spiral, I didn’t know what to do I was panicking constantly messaging my mum (who had 5 kids) asking what to do so I just did what MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS told me
Please please please if your lil one is ill or not themselves in anyway push for them! Fight for them! Do whatever it takes to get answers because as I learnt very fast things can end very badly if you don’t!
(Sorry if this doesn’t make sense or there’s any spelling mistakes I’m here unable to sleep at 3am after reading some of the messages I’ve received)
The difference 24 hours makes in photos!

I’m so glad your little one is on the mend!! Can I just say that it is absolutely ridiculous you are receiving nasty messages. We are all just out here trying our best for our babies. This is supposed to be an app you can come to for support and encouragement and I’m sorry you didn’t get that during this time xx

So sorry Milo was so poorly, must of been so scary for you all 😔
But glad he is doing better now that must be such a relief xx

So glad he’s doing better 😊

Aw it’s so sad you feel like you have to explain yourself like this. There are some really judgemental and not so nice mums on here !! Don’t worry you’ve done great, looking after a poorly baby isn’t easy, glad he’s okay sending lots of love to you both x

Oh girl, so sorry you got nasty messages while your baby was ill. Glad he feels better now.
And middle finger to all the haters who sent u rubbish.
U are clearly amazing mumma ❤️

Katie, you are an amazing mummy, it is clear to see how much you adore Milo, and I’m sorry he’s been so poorly and it has been such a difficult time for your family. Please, please ignore the haters. Yes it’s fine for people to advise, but not to judge. I honestly don’t know where people get off on here. Thinking of you all xx

I’m so pleased Milo is getting better and like others have said it’s so sad that you had to justify yourself, I know it must have been so difficult for you to see him poorly! Sending you all the best, here if you ever need someone to talk to 😘 xxx

This actually made me tear up that you've had to come on here and explain yourself to some people who sometimes should,if they disagree with what they see just keep their opinions to themselves when there so nasty 🤨! I'm so glad Milo is getting there and you guys can now breathe a little easier. Your amazing mumma and know what is best for your baby, good on you for fighting for your little man! Like you said you followed proffesional advice and it wasn't neccisarly what was best for Milo and took actions into your own hands, you've done amazing don't let negative comments bring you down or don't feel you need to explain yourself to these negative nellys 🤗

You did the right thing! I’m so glad milo is ok. I can’t believe some judgemental people on here it’s absolutely ridiculous!! We’re all in the same position trying to do well for our babies. This app is supposed to be full of support and an app where you can get advice and talk to other mamas! Please ignore nasty comments. It’s also sad how youve had to come on here and explain yourself 😢 You did the right thing! You know your baby better than anyone! I’m sorry you didn’t get the support during this hard time. But I’m happy for you that milo is getting better and improving. Nothing worse than our babies getting poorly 🥰 xx

AND THIS IS WHY WE ADVOCATE FOR OUR CHILDREN! I'm so glad you trusted your gut and he is on the mend. Milo you are a little trooper and all us may mamas have got your back 💗💗

People are so judgemental and cruel! Thank you for going through it though. Mad how quickly things can escalate. You do have to fight for things, I won't go into the lack of care my mum who was terminal with cancer got. It's really frightened me to be honest. I find it scary when they start saying oh I wouldn't have given that, makes you question things. Well done for reaching out for advice, well done for contacting the professionals when you needed to and for getting things sorted and definately always go with your gut. These days those judgemental people show up everywhere, don't think before they type, get some sort of satisfaction for being 'right' in their distorted eyes and forget what they've said might actually be the straw that breaks the camels back. Remember their names and report them for creating toxity in the community and how its effected you in such a horrible time. Hopefully you got some nice, supportive comments too.

I can't believe you have come here and explained this situation because of horrible comments! Absolutely shocking! I'm so glad milo is feeling much better, as a mum you did everything you can do, I hope your feeling OK Katie x

I'm so angry for you that people have come with their unneeded judgment in a time like this but I can totally can imagine it 😧 how dare they!
They think they've got motherhood sussed cuz they've read a few books 😑
You 100% did the right thing. There couldn't be anything worse than seeing your child that ill. You stayed determined and strong for him and anyone that's got anything else to say is not worth listening to.
Thank you for sharing this it's taught me what I may have to do when it all goes left.

So happy for you that Milo’s better ❤️🙏🏼

I’m so glad he’s doing better! Don’t beat yourself up, or let anyone make you feel bad. You followed medical advice and did what you could in a really scary situation x

So lovely to see a photo of him looking so much better 🥰 it sounds like it was an absolute nightmare couple of days for you all and the last thing you needed was unnecessary and hurtful comments and messages from internet trolls. It’s so easy to sit from behind a computer screen and say you should have done this and that but reality is very different with things going on others know nothing about and when you’ve never been in that situation before so going off your own instinct. Xxx

This app is a joke sometimes - we’re all trying to do the best for our babies and some people are so nasty!! You did everything you could and I’m so glad he’s on the mend. I feel like I’ve been in the same position (although my little girl has been no where near as ill) but she’s been poorly for 4 weeks solid and literally no one wants to know 🙄 so I feel you when you say it’s like no one’s listening! Well done for fighting till you got somewhere x

i’m so sorry some idiots think they have the right to judge you. It’s absolutely vile when we are all just doing our best, and let’s face it, winging it most of the time! So, so glad to see he is on the up, and he certainly has his cheeky little twinkle back in his eyes!
What op is he having? Obviously you don’t have to answer, that’s my nosey nature coming out! Whatever it is, we are sending lots of positive vibes for a quick recovery for all of you. Don’t forget to look after yourself too, Katie; you can only keep being the amazing mummy you are if you are okay too! Sending love & lots of sloppy Jaxon kisses (he has learnt to blow kisses the last 10 days & is doing it constantly to Milo’s pic!)xx

@Katie oh gosh Katie he looks sooooo much better I'm so happy for you! It's so bloody hard doing it alone with a night working partner 😭 I'm so glad he's feeling better, as for the vile comments and messages I'm still in shock, why people think they can drag a mother down when she's doing her absolute best! Let's just hope there children don't become seriously ill and need advice, you know these are the mums who are quick to jump on posts about "not following guidelines" but post incognito when they need advice themselves 😂

will drop you a message when I fully wake up 🤣 not really something I want to put openly on the internet 😅
Bless his little sole! I can’t wait for Milo to start learning new thing again but seems we went a little backwards while he was ill and he’s forgotten how to say the few words he knew 🤦🏼♀️

completely get that. Try not to worry, he’s likely not forgotten, but just exhausted & has dismissed things that aren’t too important to him atm. His little body will be working on getting better & eating/drinking, and having lots of mummy loves x

Reading this, I can’t understand why you would ever have to come here and explain yourself. People are genuinely cruel. Sounds like you and Milo have had hell for the last couple of weeks, and I’m glad he’s starting to seem a bit better. I hope he has a full speedy recovery and is back playing, eating and napping normally again. You have done amazing with everything, and don’t forget that. Xxx

It’s sounds like you went through hell! You’re an absolute trooper! My daughter had a urine infection when she was 3 months old and I had to fight to get her seen by doctors as I was constantly being told she was ‘fine’. I know first hand how frustrating that is! You did amazing advocating for your son and look how happy and healthy he is 🤗
It makes me angry that you felt pushed to explain yourself. We are all mums on here and should all know the struggles of navigating stressful moments especially when our children are ill 💕
