Surprise Hospital Trip w/Twins
I’m almost 21 weeks pregnant with my di/di boy/girl twins. A few days ago I had a regularly scheduled OBGYN appointment I ate breakfast drank water, husband drove us to clinic 5 minutes away, got seen within a couple minutes. Then the basics checking weight, growth, you know. Dr said everything looks good if I had any questions and afterward I let her know I was starting to feel a bit lightheaded. A nurse came in and stayed with me gave me some water and let me know to stay as long as I needed till I felt better. I don’t remember too much but this is what happened according to them. One minute I was drinking water and talking the next I passed out and slumped over in my seat. Nurse caught me and started yelling for help. Another nurse held up my other side and they started checking my blood pressure which dropped dramatically to like 70/39 they said. When I finally came to I threw up. They had called my husband from the lobby who was waiting and watching our toddler play around and he rushed in football carrying our toddler who for once was behaving and flopping over in his arms like a puppy. They called an ambulance and wanted me to go to L&D triage to get checked out but my blood pressure went back to normal within a few minutes and they said my husband could take me to the hospital if I wanted to but to still get checked out. I went, was given fluids, got an EKG, and bloodwork which all came out clear. The male doctor on sight irked me when he finally came in to clear me saying “well often times when YOUNG women like YOU come in it’s just dehydration”. Ick. I told him I had breakfast this morning and plenty of water before my appointment and then started saying “well maybe you just got up to fast or were standing up too long”. Again… I had a very easygoing morning it was just a regular appointment. Appt was at 11 so we took our time getting ready was there early again a 5 minute drive to the clinic. And the lobby was empty so I was seen quickly. I was doing the bare minimum no blood was drawn at the clinic prior to the fainting. Dr basically dismissed me and said well let’s hope it doesn’t happen again so I don’t have to see you again here before it’s time. And I was just like yeah… Anyways I needed to rant a little bit and wanted to ask if anyone had a similar experience. I’ve had normal blood pressure entire pregnancy so far and never fainted. No deficiencies in my blood at the hospital either and twins looks completely fine, active, cute, and kicking. It was just strange.

Yes! I'm 30 weeks +3 with di/di twin boys and I've had this happen probably about 3 times this pregnancy. Normally it only happens when I over stress like blood draws or piercings when not pregnant but I went to eat at olive garden with my husband and son and got done eat started to feel really light headed then my hearing goes out followed by my eye sight and I feel like I need to puke but have no way of getting to it. It's really scary my husband was about to take me to the er but I told him no cause I've had it happen before so I breathed very slowly and drank like 3 cups of water took about 10 min before I was ok to walk to the car. It's really scary to have happen I noticed it happens alot more for me if I'm hot and cause obviously I'm pregnant with twins that's very easy for me I also had it happen while walking at a reptile expo with a friend. I had to have her rush me to the seating area I don't remember much
I'd complain about how uncaring, dismissive and existing the doctor was. But sorry can't help on the rest as didn't experience anything like that during my twin pregnancy
It's the position of the table for me. Everytime I get an ultrasound I get very light headed. I can't lay on my back. My BP runs low. I am not dehydrated. I drink a ton of water and frequently drinks liquid IVs.
yes!! Me too at my anatomy scan I had to get up several times because I felt lightheaded and the sonographer had me turn on my sides which felt better to scan better and keep me comfortable. And anatomy was like 2 hours long. However they only did a Doppler scan for maybe 3 minutes total they had only checked for babies heart rates said all was strong, sat back up and asked general questions and that’s when I started feeling a little bit lightheaded and everything happened.
I agree I’m just hoping I don’t see him again. At the very least I would refuse service if I do. He never even saw me the entire time at the hospital until the very end just to dismiss me like that. The nurse was much more attentive and caring.
Sounds like when you lay flat your belly is compressing descending aorta it happens with pregnant women! the doc still sounds like an asshole tho
And he should have warned you about it or told you about it

You can try moving your belly to the left to take pressure off so your blood pressure doesn’t drop if you are forced to lay flat for a procedure
