When to worry about a cough??

My little one is almost 11 weeks and got a cold about 2 days ago. No fever, bit of a snotty nose and a cough.

He’s still very smiley and seems fine within himself.

His breathing is fine and oxygen levels are good (checked via owlet sock) but when should I worry about it? It sounds pretty chesty and I don’t know if I should have gotten it checked out by now.

Also any tips on how to help him with the cold?

Humidifier, saline drops and snot sucker (you’d be surprised what comes out even if there is no visible snot), Vapour rub for babies on feet and being in a nice steamy shower room can help. I’d phone your duty health visitor and see what they say, mine was really helpful the other day x

Also out of interest what has his oxygen been? I am also checking my LGs owlet lol x

the snot sucker has been so helpful today!! Quite gross actually 😂 and I’m probably going to phone the GP in the morning as I’m worrying myself even though he seems fine!

It’s been fluctuating between 95% and 100% today. We had one moment where it went down to about 89% but he was coughing quite a bit and went back up straight after. Xx

my friends little boy has had RSV and been in hospital and she was told it will always drop whilst they are asleep and that 90 is now the baseline to be seen - which is what I’ve been relying on! Absolutely phone the GP if you’re worried!! X

okay very good to know!! Will keep an eye out to see if it drops again and will go straight away!! Thank you! X

A cough is always the last thing to go away. And it’s worse when they’re laying down. I would say about 1 week as long as everything else seems normal. Besides the normal things you can do at home, it just needs time.

Just a little update, he started sucking in at the ribs so we’re heading in to get checked out. Thank you for your help!!
