Shellac and nail polish during labour/delivery and birth

I’m sure it’s because if they need to use a pulse oximeter they get a clearer reading when straight onto the nail. Some polishes can block the reading.

Yeah I think they do advise against, but I had acrylics on during labour and no one said anything x

I had shellac on and No1 said anything to me. Midwifes mentioned it once during one of check ups but it read my readings so they said it should be fine

I actually asked my midwife about this today - she said pedicure is fine but when you have a C section they usually ask you to take off nail varnish on one finger nail. So best not have any on your fingers in case you need an emergency C section x

I had gels on my whole pregnancy and for my Caesarian. My obstetrician actually asked me what colour they would be for the birth 😂

You are monitored in lots of ways if you have to go to theatre including a toe monitor, so leave your toes bare. Only crappy old o2 meters have issues. When I asked if it was an issue she put a monitor on my gelled finger and it instantly read my levels x

Honestly I'd go for it and if it causes a problem they'll clean one of your nails off. I never had this problem. I was there for 3 weeks on and off the monitor they never said anything about my nail polish

I have biab on my hands and toes and had a c section, everything was fine. One of the nurses even said they liked my nails.

Rule of thumb stay away from google it will scare the hell out of you lol I’ve never had any problems with those things

It’s just due to the fact that dark nail polish and acrylic can mess with the pulse oximeter. We actually carry nail polish remover on my ambulance for that reason. I suggest natural nails with a French mani or a sheer color! Those will be fine and they’ll look good ❤️

They PREFER it off but nothing is impossible, w it on. It’s just a preference for them
