Law in the UK has changed and employers have to prove that your flexible working (working from home) will have a negative impact on the company. If you are sure it wouldn't contact ACAS for legal advice and apply for it.
@Magda all they’re saying is that it won’t be fair on the other working parents 😭 I think it’s a control thing - im the only Employee who’s working remote in the firm
Contact ACAS and in a meantime look for other jobs. We allow all office based people work from home but don't have any vacancies now :/
Also look for childminder. They are generally cheaper and my niece preferred if over nursery, my sister was also more happy and relaxed with childminder
@Magda okay will do in the morning! Could you please let me know if a remote role does come up?
There’s an organisation called Pregnant then Screwed that should be able to help and advise over your current job x
@Amber thank you, I’ll try contacting them
Look on Civil service jobs! They offer remote/wfh contracts x
I’m a little shocked. I was thinking about contacting ACAS as well. What about maternity leave minimum 9 months after the birth? They can’t kick you out because of the child. Doesn’t seems legal at all their preasure. Call acas , citizen advice bureau and get some legal advice. Read your contract again. There is UC and maternity allowance till 11 months. Searching for the jobs: google jobs online and you can find plenty and start to apply. Job apps: cv library, indeed, reed, etc, even linked in, gov.uk. What about the father? Can he work 2 jobs? Or some extra hours? Or stay with the child when your at work?
@Zoé I’ve had a look/ they all require really specific experience or quals, am I missing something 😭😭
@Olguta he’s a field engineer so it’s really hard for him to WFH, he can do one day a week which is really stretching it with his work lot 😭 I’m going to call acas in the morning - issue is I’ve been working with this company for less than 2 years so according to uk employment law I can’t really do anything ☹️ I’ve been job hunting for anything remote for 3 weeks now, can’t seem to find anything
Keep searching for a new job. Good luck!
Most jobs nowadays are hybid with very few completely remote. I would say remote jobs don't necessarily mean you can work from home being the main carer of the baby. Maybe look into the 15hrs free for 9 months plus from Sept. Also it might be worth weighing if you should stay at home with baby until they get the 30hrs free. Or if you want to make extra money while staying at home, look into being self employed and find jobs on upWork.
Even if you do have a remote working job a lot of companies would expect you to have childcare while you are working. It would be very hard to give work your full attention when looking after a baby at the same time. Maybe you could look for something you could do in the evening when baby is sleeping? Or a job that is opposite shifts to your partner? I know at our work we have a few families where the parents work opposite shifts for that reason.

@Lara 🙌🏻 how can I see if im eligible for this?
@Harman if you are eligible for UC, you will be eligible for up to 85% childcare reimbursement. If not, you will be eligible for the 20% tax free childcare (£2000 max per year). This can be used with the 15 free hours too
@Thao could you please direct me to the links? I get so lost on the Gov website 🥲
The link for the 20% tax free childcare? Or UC? We don't claim UC so I am not the best to give info about this.
@Thao the tax free child care please, I’m not eligible for UC ☹️
